GRIM GIFT: A birthday celebration in Sydney's affluent suburb of Vaucluse took a tragic turn when a well-intentioned parent's gift missed the mark by a considerable margin. Nineteen year old Felicity Argylle-McGraw was eagerly anticipating the milestone moment when she would finally receive the keys to her own multi-million dollar inner city apartment. But her hopes were dashed when she was instead given a brand-new Porsche Cayenne, worth $170,000. "I thought it was a joke at first," Ms Argylle-McGraw told DBT, still wiping tears from her face. "The Porsche isn't even that big of a step up fr ..read more

SHOPLIFTING: Soaring gym membership prices are proving no obstacle for an enterprising group of people who are now doing their daily workout at Rebel Sport in the CBD. "I've been coming here everyday," one man told DBT while lifting weights without a shirt on. "Or sometimes I go to Kmart. They also have a decent gym section." Other people at Rebel have also been using the store's elliptical equipment. "If any staff ask why I've been on the cross trainer for 30 minutes, I just say I'm using it on a 'try before I buy' basis," says one woman. Gym chains Fitness First and Anytime Fitness say they ..read more

DANCING BABY: The woman who was controversially booted from an Arj Barker stand up comedy show in Melbourne on Saturday night has re-emerged in new photos given exclusively to DBT. Trish Faranda was photographed at iconic Sydney nightclub Club 77, shortly after 5am today. "I still love to party, but I have to bring my young baby cause he's still breastfeeding," she told our reporter. "But he absolutely loves it here. I can tell because he's screaming so loudly to the music!" It's unclear how long the pair stayed out, but at one stage they were dancing on an elevated podium on the dance floor ..read more

DEEP CLEAN: A Sydney husband is making bold moves to quell his wife's growing anger and resentment over his lack of effort around the house. With their shared bathroom looking like it just hosted a mud wrestling tournament, David Bell put two Wash Wild anti-bacterial drops into the toilet bowl. “Cleaning the bathroom was so much easier than I thought," he told DBT, beaming with pride. "I even flushed the toilet twice for good measure." However his minimalist approach left his wife Belinda less than impressed. "The toilet bowl still has skid marks on it, and the shower still has soap scum from ..read more

GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN: Tears are flowing today, as long distance threatens to end a life-long friendship between two Sydney women. Bondi resident Kate Parkes announced last week that she's moving more than 20 km's away to Manly in Sydney's north to live with her boyfriend. "I'm devastated," says Kate's neighbour and old friend Jenna Philby who hosted a farewell party last night. "We've promised each other that we'll stay in touch via WhatsApp, but unfortunately I'll never get to see her anymore!" The pair both say it'll be too difficult to meet up face to face given their busy schedules and ..read more

ROCK BOTTOM: Just three days after his failed defamation case closed against Network TEN, Bruce Lehrmann has been photographed pacing furiously along the rocky coastline near Freshwater Beach in Sydney's north. "He was combing every nook and cranny," said one witness. "He was still wearing his suit and he was so focused!" It comes after more than 250kg of cocaine washed up along NSW’s coastline over the past several months. "Bruce kept muttering something about hitting the jackpot," the witness told DBT. It's understood the former political staffer's search yielded nothing more than a few bot ..read more

URBAN ADVENTURE: Puffer jacket season has come early for one Double Bay woman. Sally Riley normally gets her groceries delivered, but today, after running out of bottled water and organic yoghurt, she was forced to brave the cool climates of her local Woolworths. "The meat and dairy sections are the worst," the 29 year old told DBT. "But sometimes in life you really need to step outside of your comfort zone." Ms Riley wore her North Face puffer jacket, typically reserved for sub-zero temperatures. She paired the jacket with a black turtleneck sweater and beige corduroy pants. "I'm pretty much ..read more

ALL TALK: At the end of a long and frustrating call, a Telstra phone support rep has reportedly asked a customer if there is anything 'else' she can help with. However it's understood the customer service worker didn't help with anything in the first place. "Using the word 'else' in her question was unnecessary and misleading," says angry Telstra customer Adam Vann (pictured). "She should have just said; 'Is there anything I can help you with." Adam Vann's complaint follows a series of long and fruitless calls to Telstra phone support about his internet connectivity issues. "Every time I fina ..read more

CAST AWAY: A Sydney man has been rescued in the Bondi Westfield car park, two months after he lost his car there. At around midday today, emergency crews found Paul Tunks sitting on the car park floor, delirious and malnourished. The 41 year old Dover Heights man was rushed to St Vincent's hospital to be treated for dehydration and overexposure to car exhaust fumes. "All I wanted from the shops was a litre of milk and a jar of Vegemite from Coles," he told DBT from his hospital bed. “I parked the car and went into the mall. But when I came back out I had no idea where it was." Since then, he ..read more

LET'S CATCH UP SOON: A groundbreaking new study has confirmed the impact modern communications technology is having on the social lives of Australians. "Everyone is swamped with multiple, tentative social arrangements at any one time," says UNSW lead researcher Simone Stevens. "Most of the plans don't even end up happening." The average Australian adult now spends 8 hours and 24 minutes per week texting or talking about potential social arrangements with friends. That compares with an average of 2 hours and 51 minutes actually seeing them, most of which is spent taking group selfies to prove ..read more
