What's your perfect Sunday? At The Urchin, food on Sundays used to be just like every other day. That changed in 2018 when our friend and Spanish chef, Iggy, came up with the idea of a sharing 'Seafood Paella'. It's our alternative roast and it's been a staple on the Sunday menu ever since.
But what is "authentic paella"? Are you allowed to use seafood? Does it have to be cooked over a wood fire? Is it still a humble sharing dish or has it become a gastronomic delicacy? And why is it that no one ever makes a single portion of paella?

This Autumn, we celebrate the return of the native oyster season at The Urchin, with natives back on our regular menu from October to March, and a special Oyster Feast on Monday 28th November, featuring fresh Larrikin Oyster Stout brewed on-site, live music and a plethora of oyster goodness.

February marks the 5th birthday of The Urchin. To celebrate, we thought we'd share five things about the pub that you might not know.

This Halloween, we will be celebrating four local, upstart breweries. Each is unique, but all share a kindred spirit of innovation, adventure and fierce independence. We kinda like that at The Urchin. In fact, it’s these guys who inspired us to start our own brewery this year, downstairs at the pub. It's called Larrikin, which is Australian for maverick, free thinking, good-natured street urchin, larkin’ around. We think there’s a little bit of Larrikin in all our Young Gun guest brewers, which is why we love’em.

This summer, we went to Sicily to find some fresh wine inspiration to pair with our shellfish. What better place to do it than Sicily, where you are never far from the sea. Everything is infused with a heady cocktail of sunshine, sea salt and coastal breeze: the soil, the air, the water, the people.
It's also a place where we felt instantly at home. For us, The Urchin is part of our extended family. Our hostess and guide for the week in Sicily was Antonia, a close family friend and second mother for more than 40 years. The trip was all the more poignant as Antonia passed away just a few weeks ..read more
