In case you missed it we thought we would share with you a pic from the wonderful Little Chefs morning we ran at The Three Hills in August. The kids enjoyed colouring in their own chef's hats, and then, under Chef Harry's expert tuition, creating their own pizzas for lunch, and their own decorated icecream sundaes for pudding. Even the dads got in on the action! If you think your child would enjoy this, let us know and we can add you to our list for a future Little Chefs morning ..read more

Think fairy lights, colourful trees, live music, popcorn, beer, balmy evenings and three of the best films ever...and you have summed up the weekend of Enchanted Cinema at The Three Hills this past week. What a treat it was to relax on a comfortable deckchair with a cold Estrella beer and watch A Star is Born, Bohemian Rhapsody and The Greatest Showman. The atmosphere was terrific and Will and Andy from Enchanted Cinema did us proud. Thank you so much guys and we look forward to our cinema extravaganza next year! #enchantedcinema #explorerssociety #ourdoorcinema #enchantedevening #estrelladamm ..read more

There is such a wealth of things to do if you are staying with us at The Three Hills, and last Thursday we joined a group of keen foodies to experience the delights that Saffron Walden has to offer under the expert care of local food guide Rachel Hewlett. First stop, the Goat and Grass on Cross Street, a very popular brunch café serving the most delicious power juices, avocado, poached egg and smoked salmon breakfasts and a whole host of other energising dishes. Full of local buzz and friendly staff - you will want to linger longer than we had time for! Next we headed to Mini Miss Bread on Chu ..read more

Last year Emily and I spent two weeks filming for Channel Four's hit show "Four in a Bed." I had been asked several times over the previous couple of years whether we wanted to appear on the show, and I had always resisted. I'm not sure why I changed my mind, but I did, and we found ourselves a few months later driving up to an undisclosed location somewhere in Yorkshire for the first of the three visits we would make over the course of the two weeks of filming. For those of you who don't know the show, the concept is fairly simple. Four B&B owners visit each other's establishments and rat ..read more

Wow! What an exciting end to a pretty challenging year, to say the least. Just before Christmas we received a really lovely surprise in the post - notification that we had been chosen by a panel of industry experts to be included in the Estrella Damm Top 50 Gastropubs in the UK for 2021. When you take a look at some of the names on last year's list, this is very high praise indeed, and we are humbled and honoured that our small and relatively new pub has been included. The results of the rankings will be made known in a live stream on You Tube at 7pm on March 26th. No matter where we are on th ..read more

Getting ready for Christmas?
The Three Hills Blog

Our second lockdown in a year and this one feels very different. Most people seem to be going about their usual business, most businesses appear to be open - apart from hospitality, gyms, small independent non food retailers and hairdressers. We feel your pain. But we are trying to stay busy - even if it's only dreaming of Christmas, cosy candlelit dinners or al fresco dining with a difference. When the time comes, we will welcome you back to The Three Hills with our arms open! We encourage you to book your tables now, at whatever pubs and restaurants you choose - to give this industry the ch ..read more

To say we are stunned is an understatement! The Estrella Damm Top 50 Gastropub Awards are voted for by top foodies and hospitality experts. These include gastropub operators (who can’t vote for their own pubs), food writers, pubco catering development managers and executive chefs, celebrity and top hospitality industry chefs, pub guide editors, industry chiefs and food operators. The voting criteria ensures the list really is decided by the industry. This is a wonderful achievement by our pub after only three years of trading, particularly after such a tough year as 2020, and it makes us so ex ..read more

The Argument for Taking Deposits
The Three Hills Blog
by emmaharrison85

It has become a familiar refrain on Twitter: the outrage of hard working chefs and others involved in the beleaguered hospitality industry when customers decide to "no show", often at the very last minute. When you do this, or even when you cancel within 24 hours, you are not only depriving a business that is most likely already on its knees of valuable income, but you are costing the business money. Staff have been allocated, food has been purchased, and other customers have been turned away. Forced to limit capacity due to social distancing requirements, and operating with increased labour c ..read more

It's not just pubs and restaurants that are having a hard time this year - our whole supply chain is affected. This is why it is so important, this year more than ever, to get out into your local community and support your local small shopkeepers. This year we have had the wonderful Claire from Augusta Hope Flowers in Fulbourn make us the most spectacular Christmas decorations. Come to The Three Hills to check them out for yourself or better still, pop into her lovely shop in Fulbourn. You won't be disappointed, and we all need a little treat this Christmas! #augustahopeflowers ..read more
