Wishing all our guests a safe, peaceful and happy Christmas season. So different from other years, we are looking forward to 2021, in the hope that the world will heal , and a modicum of normality will return. We are so fortunate to live in such a beautiful area, and look forward to promoting it over the next few months. Thank you to all our regular guests who have visited this year, your loyalty is very much appreciated. And thank you all our new guests this year who came and enjoyed the yurt. We even had an amazing proposal in October. It was done with carved pumpkins saying ‘Will You Marry ..read more

This Spring has been so wet! We normally have the yurt up and running by now. So at last, it looks like we will have a dry day on Wednesday when Both Pat and I are free to get the yurt out of it’s many storage places and get it up!. Last week, Pat mended the various bits of deck that had become weathered, and worked manfully between showers of rain to get it done. Tomorrow, all the linings will be washed and hung out to dry, the huge roof lining will go the the laundry to be washed as it won’t fit in our machine! Then…we will be ready to get the structure up. The following days will be spent c ..read more

We are pleased to say Cottage Garden Yurt is returning this year! We had thought after 10 years we would change tack and build a cabin. But due to numerous reasons, the escalating costs of materials etc, we are going to continue with our lovely yurt, and hope to build a small kitchen area in the yurt garden to enable guests to be completely independent. So we are open for bookings from the end of April. Happy days ahead ..read more

This spring, we have updated our yurt a little. We have painted some of the furniture in richer colours, with glints of gold leaf, plants and sumptuous velvet cushions. The effect is lovely, a touch William Morris and heading towards a style we would like to continue when we build our artist’s retreat next year.t This is the last year of the beautiful yurt! As we hope to change it for a more permanent structure that stays up all year round ..read more

The Yurt goes up.

Yesterday was the perfect day to get the yurt up. Beautifully sunny all day, no wind. Pat has re-newed big sections of the deck, the trees around the yurt have been trimmed right back, so we were ready to start the build. The yurt is made from oak and ash, and each year it seems a little heavier than the last. We missed having Will’s young strength and lythe figure to help us. I can just squeeze through the yurt wheel to pull up the canvas, but its tight! And my strength is going! So after a long day, the structure is up, its lined with new thick wadding, and the inner lining is freshly washed ..read more

This year, we have 2 super bikes for our guests to use while they are here with us. A rather beautiful Green Dream Machine, and a Zesty Red Wizzer! This means you can explore locally. Cycle down the very pretty route to Biddenden Vineyard, it takes half an hour to cycle there. Be rewarded with a tasting of wonderful cider, or have tea and cake, a walk round the vineyard, then a slow cycle home. Cycle to ‘The Chequers’ in High Halden, through the back lanes. Sit outside and have an excellent pub meal and a pint. Tenterden can be reached by bike too. If you fancy a day mooching round the shops a ..read more

September is coming and the rush of summer will be over. We have had so many lovely guests in this new and challenging time. It has been lovely to be back up welcoming people, and the yurt has worked well as a private self contained space for holidays and short breaks. We have plenty of availability in September, a lovely month to come to Kent. Visit the orchards and vineyards near by and revel in the changing season. With the temperature cooling down, toasty nights by the wood burning stove are in order with a glorious glass of red wine, or a hot mulled cider. The yurt , from the field as we ..read more
