The past few weeks have been the most difficult of our lives, and we are incredibly grateful for the love and support shown by Kiwis during the aftermath of the cyclone. Since then, we have spent a lot of time thinking about how we rebuild, and what the future looks like. Over the short term we are using contract brewing facilities in Auckland so we can continue getting Zeelandt beer to our customers. We love what we do and are committed to keep going! Nestled among the vines inside the northern Napier settlement of Eskdale lies a place where history meets modernity. The vision of Cone & Flower bloomed into reality thanks to two brothers who both share a passion for modern brewing and winemaking. But their approach to making beer and wine comes from another world and sets them apart from New Zealand’s traditional brewing industry. Born and raised in Auckland, brothers Christopher and Philip grew up in a household where both food and drink were occasions to be celebrated. As they grew older Christopher took the road towards crafting beer ..read more

Original article written by Michael M from Pursuit of Happiness Until recently I could not see myself writing an article on Zeelandt Brewery — which I guess requires some explanation. I was born in Germany, where I grew up and spent most of my adult life. Consequently, Germany was also the place where my taste buds got introduced to beer. After an epic journey trying various German beer styles Pilsner was one of my favorites. Fast forward to the year 2007. I had moved to New Zealand and arrived in a country whose beer offerings was dominated by a brewery duopoly. These two breweries produced v ..read more

A Modern Approach to Brewing Beer
Zeelandt Brewery Blog

At ZB we take a traditionally modern approach to brewing. We brew the traditional beer styles of Europe and bring them to life in Aotearoa New Zealand. There is a world of beer out there so join us in the Journey of Discovery. This is the first of a five-part series to demystify what goes into beer so you can understand a little more of what you are drinking next time you crack into a ZB. When I am showing a group of people around the brewery, I begin with a question. What four ingredients go into making beer? It usually takes some coaxing to get the group to name all four ingredients. It made ..read more

Zeelandt Brewery was opened in 2012, in Eskdale, Hawke’s Bay by Head Brewer Chris, following in the footsteps of his great-great-grandfather who started his own brewery in Hororata in the 1880s. Who doesn’t love a great story told over a beer or two? Grandma Mary Smith certainly did, and you’ll love it too – provided, of course, that the story is told over an ice-cold Mary Smith 2020 Brut Pilsner.
