Burns My Biscuits I Learn something new every day.  I had not heard, “burns my biscuits” before Saturday.  Tammy Jones Davis is one of the caregivers who helps me with the Cat and is also a Travel Companion when we now go on trips.  I have two different ladies that are willing to do so.  An extra set of eyes and hands comes in handy nowadays. We are planning on getting our final 1/2 marathon state done at the Brew City half marathon in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on April 20th.  That date is significant to  Cat and me since that was when she was diagnosed with Early ..read more

Forty Nine States Down, One to Go “An’t nothing to it but to do it.” Statement of the raw simplicity of a task, implying that all  it takes is hard not necessarily intelligent, work and effort. – Ronnie Coleman As you might know, I am very goal oriented. I love setting goals for myself.  It takes my mind off the daily tasks and keeps me focused on the future.  I have completed many goals during my life both career wise and on the exercise front.  Right now my focus is to get a half marathon done in all 50 states.  Cat got them done as marathons back in 2020 and I still ..read more

Birthday Road Trip Things have a marvelous way of working out.  Trust that.- Adel Ahmed It has been quite a while since Cat and I have gone on a 10 day, 7 leg, road trip and it felt great to get back out there.  We have been doing mostly local 5 and 10K’s with the occasional overnight. It was my birthday on July 6th, 2023, so what better way than to spend it with my son, Shawn and his family.  I turned 68 and actually feel better than I did in my 50’s.  About the same physically but much better mentally.  It might have to do with the fact that back then I was still wor ..read more

If I Get Dementia “Every minute with your loved one is precious, because every minute keeps getting smaller” – Ashley Campbell Recently, I have seen something posted on social media called, If I get Dementia.  It was over 10 years ago that I first noticed something was just not right with Cat and because of our due diligence it was only a year later that Cat was diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer’s, EOA. They also added the caveat of, or like condition.  The reason being that it actually can not be confirmed until after autopsy, when the person’s brain can be observed.  Cat ha ..read more

Seizures and Proper Hydration I should’ve known better, “Better late than never” -Idiom, It is better for someone to arrive or do something late than not to arrive or do it at all As an endurance athlete for nearly 25 years you would think I would know the importance of proper hydration, but what I have learned is that it is even more critical when it comes to folks with Alzheimer’s.  It never occurred to me since, Catherine, Cat, has not been running since April of last year.  However, she is still very active and walks 6-8 miles a day. Cat started having seizures over a year ago th ..read more

Run At Least One Mile a Day Find the thing you do well and do it again and again for the rest of your life. – Jóhann Jóhannsson It all started on a nice, warm, late winter day, the 5th of March at Willis Park, in Roswell Georgia. It is the home to the renowned equestrian complex.  I am not sure exactly why, but after that unimpressive 2 mile run, I decided to run at least 1 mile a day.  I am undecided for how long I will keep this going or if I will try more mileage a day.  I know there are plenty of people out there that have run a lot more miles a day for a much longer stretch ..read more

New Year’s Resolution “You Go One Day at a Time” – Maureen McGovern A friend of mine stated that they always took one day at a time.  I was working on my New Year’s resolution for the coming year so I gave, take one day at a time, some thought.  I ran across this article and started giving taking one day at a time a more serious consideration. Singer Maureen McGovern says her mantra is “don’t give up” Celebrated singer Maureen McGovern has spread a message of hope amid darkness for almost 50 years with her signature song, “The Morning After.” But now the anthem also tells McGov ..read more
