Fish oil for my 8mo pup.

I want to use Vital Pet Life salmon oil for my 80lb pup. They say to use 9ml=2 pumps= 2 teaspoons for this size. But other brands like ZestyPaws Alaskan Salmon recommend 14ml=3pumps= 3teaspoons. But the same brand says to use 4ml for each 20lbs, in another smaller bottle, which would be 16ml. I'm so confused. And the internet says 1ml for every 6.6lbs , so that would be 12mls. I'm just so conflicted and confused. I posted to other subreddits and it keeps getting turned down. I just want to dose my dog right so that I cause no issues and so that it actually works.. submitted by /u/Mx-Mornings ..read more

brought home new pup today. have a female french bulldog already that is the absolute sweetest thing and we love her to pieces. she's so so social, even to a fault sometimes. but also is literally so self sufficient and enjoys winging it and keeping herself entertained, or lounging out. we got her a male companion. my husband & myself thought a male/female duo would be adorable and a boy would be a perfect addition to our family. is it normal that im already feeling that this was a selfish decision & a foolish one ? our girl is a year and three months - gets along with all living thin ..read more

Best breed/dog to get for our current dog who wants to play all the time?

Hey all! Need some breed recommendations please. I have a pup who is very high energy, he’s a staffy. He wants to play ALL the time and is pretty goofy. He’s a bit of a nipper while he plays. Anyone have recommendations for a breed that would not only tolerate my current dog but would play with him? I really love the bully breeds but not sure how they would do with our annoying little brat haha submitted by /u/Miaf8456 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

I may not be smart enough for puppy class.

We had our first puppy class. The pup was great…I was an awkward mess. There’s so many things they expect me to master in 39 seconds of instruction! Hold the leash and clicker in one hand, the lure treat and the actual treat in the other. Don’t forget to say your command. But only once. Lure. No slower. Click, no you clicked too late. Say free, no too late. Anyone else need pre puppy school…maybe a class without the dog?? I’ve been around animals my entire life, but I felt like a dolt. Maybe I need a remedial class. Luckily my husband was there and also felt inadequate. submitted by /u/Bette ..read more

Puppy will not go potty outside

Hello everyone! I recently adopted a 12 week old puppy, I'm not too sure of the household she was previously in as she is afraid of my male partner, she's afraid of the leash and harness and scream cries if she is outside. I have been trying to teach her that outside is not something to be afraid of and it's slowly working with treats and encouragement but she still panics and tries to find a place to hide when she is outside. Which is leading me to my issue, I have not been able to potty train her, I try and take her out every 30 to 45 minutes when I'm home and after every meal, and she does ..read more

Just realized her shiny coat today

So today I was reading something about coat and skin health, and I paid attention to my puppy’s coat and realized that it is SHINING!! She’s so beautiful and I’m so grateful that she has been healthy with us! All those time dedicated to understand canine nutritions are not wasted! She dislikes kibbles so I had to create balanced meals for her to actually eat. And yes, we tried adding warm water or bone broth to soften the kibbles, but she DOESN’T EAT IT! The only way she would eat it is when I use kibbles to train her. submitted by /u/smartdonut_ [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

When do you know it’s time to talk neutering?

Our vet told me that it’s best to wait 1 yr and 6 months to have it done (have a med-large mix pup). I’ve read other people here neutering/ spaying earlier than that, and have talked to fellow dog parents too with different opinions. And with my pup now almost 9 months, with new behaviors like marking and recently humping becoming more consistent, I’m curious about when do parents here decide it’s time? Just want to preface, despite the behavioral stuff, I’m personally sticking with whatever my vet’s suggestion is since my concern is more about when is best for health, but I am thinking of as ..read more

Does anyone have recommendations for doggy DNA (preferably breed and health) tests that are available in Australia? I looked into Embark, but with the conversion rate and shipping it was almost $400, so would like to find something closer to home. submitted by /u/erb999 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

First Day Tips for New Puppy

Hey everyone, We’re getting a new rescue puppy day after tomorrow, Sunday afternoon. I was looking for some tips on how to best make them comfortable on their first day home. With our first puppy, we made a huge mistake picking him up late at night, when all of us involved in the situation were overtired. When we adopted our elderly cats, we picked them up early afternoon, and they were incredibly sweet and adjusted very quickly. This time around, we don’t want to repeat the same mistake that we made with the first pup. We’re picking him up just before noon, and we should be back home by earl ..read more
