Not all children are afraid of getting their haircut and the truth is, you really don’t know how your child will react until the time comes. And then, you never know how it will go as they get older and go through different phases.  In 30 years of cutting kids’ hair, we have seen and heard it all and it seems to me that when a child is afraid to get their haircut it falls into one of 5 general categories. Below is the list, along with strategies to help bypass the issues.  A little planning in advance goes a long way. It’s the reason I opened the salon in the first place; to create ..read more

As we all know, every child is different, and all are unpredictable. Some kids absolutely love bath time, whereas for others it may seem like a torture session. We also know that kids go through phases. The good news is that if bath time is an issue for your child right now, it’s not long before that problem will be in the past (and some other issue will take center stage). To help conquer the problem of hair washing, it first helps to understand what it is that your child doesn’t like about it. After 30 years in the children’s salon business, we know we can help. Generally speaking, the prob ..read more

Swimmer’s hair is a real thing! Even if your child doesn’t swim every day, hair (especially a child’s fine hair) is highly susceptible to damage caused by chlorine and other impurities found in pools, lakes and oceans. Every year when the kids come back from their summer fun, we see dry, brittle, tangled & damaged hair.  It’s common for blond hair to take on a green tone and sometimes the hair has a very shiny, yet dry, texture- similar to a doll’s hair. The good news is that there are 7 easy steps that you can take to prevent the damage and repair the harm that has already happened ..read more

As the final countdown to camp approaches, surely you have a long to-do list.  I’ve always been a big believer in keeping things as simple as possible, but I’ve learned over the years that an ounce of prevention saves you a pound of problems.  Your child’s summer hair care is no exception. The biggest issue we hear about (and see first-hand) in our salons when the kids return from camp is tangles.  Although curly or wavy hair is more prone to knots, all hair types can suffer.  For practical purposes, we will address tangles from 2 points: Prevention and Treatment. Believe it or not, I didn’t know that I had curly hair until I was 18 years old. I just always thought that I had “bad” frizzy hair.  I envied all those straight hair girls that easily put their hair into a smooth ponytail while I spent hours blow-drying, brushing, and styling my hair and then hours trying to protect it from the elements so it didn’t get frizzy.  Rainy days were my enemy. I hated my hair. Once I finally realized that I had curly hair, I began wearing it curly more often, but never on occasions that I needed to “look good”.  For parties or anything “important” w ..read more

As with most things, there’s a lot of contradictory information on the web regarding Cradle Cap and how to manage it. Here we lay out the facts and our recommendations that come from 25+ years in the kids’ salon & haircare industry, which includes not just research, but real-world experience. What is Cradle Cap?
