i found this thread and found it super informative. Im starting research for an adequate wood stove for about a 900 sq ft family room. The home is from 1950 and is on a concrete slab. Im looking for a stove that is highly rated, reliable and can achieve long burn times. I do not have a chimney so will need to install a metal bestos chimney. I am looking for input/opinions on best overall stove and to better understand the differences between cast iron vs soapstone procs and cons. Long time lurker first time poster - thanks for the sub's insight and experience, it has been great learning. Now that we are financially ready to make an existing wood fireplace in apparent good shape (but new to us and never used by prior owner) into an insert - I am suddenly having a bit of indecision/decision paralysis. Doing the yearly cleaning. This is after just over 2 seasons, I'm sure less than 10000 hours. I typically just remove baffles mid season and brush out with soft bristled brush. Looking for a indoor wood stove with a built in heat exchanger to heat a radiant floor. I'd prefer buying a stove with a liquid heat exchange instead of making something work.
