First of all I'm definetly not a professional fishing guide. This story started just over a year ago in the Amazon, whilst over there Amy and I connected with an American father and son, Dan and Shawn aka @BoostedAngler. They were goping to meet some Aussies as turns out Australia was a dream destination, after talking to us murray cod suddenly hit the top of their list. We were really excited when they rrached out after our return home and the planning began. Their plan chase barra in Gladstone for a week then spend a week chasing cod with us. Solid plans were made but NSW national par ..read more

Daughter and grandchild visiting for Easter.

I had a visit from fishing mad grandchild and his Mum...also a keen angler who had never caught a Murray Cod. We headed off to the 'Bidgee at Narrandera with the boat... armed with cheese, worms, cocktail franks, chicken breast, and a few shrimps. Daughter Debbie had (apparently) never caught a Murray Cod, James had caught a few small ones in the Macquarie River. I tackled everybody up and we set about seeing which of the baits would work.  James caught a very small Cod on worms and I followed by getting an almost legal Cod on the cocktail franks. Debbie was next to score and after 4 hrs ..read more

Long day on the 'Bidgee with visitors from Victoria

A couple of visitors from down South were visiting mate Luke for the weekend. We met up and headed to the river to fish an area we hadn't fished for a while, arriving just on dawn. Luke and I in one boat and the visitors in their ideal river boat. A beautiful set up with everything needed for chasing down native species. These guys (Ian and Mark) didn't need any help other than guiding them to the right area to do their stuff.  I started off with surface lure and Luke with his trusty "Bardi Grub" lure. Not long after I get a strong boof on my surface lure, but the Cod failed to connect. S ..read more

Trout for tea

Went to the Tarlo this afternoon, trying to get a trout or two for tea. The fish we ate a few months back from the river was way nicer than any of the dam fish we've ever caught. Started with a Rapala minnow, but nothing. Swapped to a mepps size 1 in copper colour, and saw a 35ish trout follow it, but the lure snagged on some weed and the fish spooked. Walked downstream to another pool I hadn't fished which you can approach from a awhile back, so as not to spook the fish. Saw a couple of trout jumping, and had a hit, but no hookup.  In the last couple of minutes before I had to leave, mov ..read more

Chasing cod in February!

February followed the trend off the previous few months for me with some good days and a few tough days.  I seem to have lost my cod mojo at Split Rock and put together 5 cod donuts in a row before I finally picked up a small cod. I was pumped to just get a fish there but had too laugh when I bumped into a guy at the ramp that I knew and he boated a 108 and 93 on his last couple of casts that morning - I'm sure you need a touch of the masochist to fish for cod  (actually, probably any fishing of the truth is known.) Donuts and tough periods aren't unusual when fishing impoundments bu ..read more

I went to Humes Creek to try catch trout which I know is stocked with browns. Was pushed out of there by two other gents who turned up to bait fish.  Moved on to Kialla Creek right in some farmland. I know this spot is stocked with rainbows. No closed gates and the road is on Google maps ? assume that was fine to do. Fished for and hour and a half, only saw one trout ~40cm chase my spinner. Last few minutes there, came back to the starting spot, which was occupied by cows when I arrived, and saw a large, dead rainbow 45+ cm long. Cast up from here, and first cast hooked up on the Rap ..read more

Went fishing with two mates, one from Canberra, specifically to target Aussie Bass for a first for the Canberra mate. Not a particularly early start, fishing from about 8am. About and hour in, he gets a hit and a big run from a fish on his chatterbait. It snagged him, but a quick scramble along the rocks on the wall, and he managed to get him in. The fish went a very chunky 50cm long.    No hits thereafter, though did try getting a large 45+ cm rainbow trout out of the spillway from above, but spooked it with my chatterbait and then it wouldn't take the small soft plastic I threw do ..read more
