Yes, they seem happy introducing "safety" features as long as someone else is paying for them but don't deal with the basics themselves. I've been into Stratford-on-Avon a few times lately and around two islands on one of the main roads into the town there is a ring most of the way round each about 6" and at least 1" deep which obviously started as a crack where the tarmac strips were laid. I caught it with one of my tyres on the rough edge when going round and was worried about damage but heaven knows what could happen to a cyclist or motorcyclist. As mote and more cars are fitted with spee ..read more

Fortunately it can be turned OFF, but for how much longer I wonder. Our Governments seemed determined to enforce the use of Tech "Safety" aids upon us. And this is the same bunch that can't even keep our roads in decent condition and believe Smart Motorways are a good idea. Statistics: Posted by JFDIT — Sat May 25, 2024 2:21 pm ..read more

Same here, using the speed limiter is a big no, no for me, after the car picked up 30 mph signs from an adjacent road when on a 70 mph road, fortunately I wasn't using the limiter, never have and never will. Can't believe how systems like this are allowed in terms of safety when an outcome could be worse than if speeding slightly. Crazy! Flawed thinking as well as flawed design. If this was in the US I think action would be being taken more quickly. Trouble is over here I doubt many folks are reporting these issues to the DVSA as it's a potential safety issue as most folks aren't aware of this. Statistics: Posted by ChrisLF — Sat May 25, 2024 10:35 am ..read more

When mine failed shortly after its first service, I contacted my supplying dealer who said "it wasn't unheard of". They had the parts in stock, but the car could not be transported to them as it was more than 50 miles. The car was taken to the nearest Volvo dealer, and when I asked why I had not heard back from the garage after they had received the car they said they would not even look at the car "till next week" as they were fully booked, and had had 6 cars recovered to them on the same day as mine. When they did get to look at my car they had the parts in stock and repaired it the same da ..read more

What is more relevant though is the B series engine has been around getting on 4 years, mine's over 3 years, 28k plus miles and no issues. So it's only a recent batch that is the problem. So whether they've changed the design recently, it's a batch from a specific factory, or a specific supplier, because it's not every recent B series. You only need the belt to start the engine and charge the battery. Once started if the engine is not stopped (by the auto stop/start) then a broken belt will not prevent you driving the car to a safe place as the engine will still be running. I'm not say this a solution merely a way of lessening the impact. Statistics: Posted by gedger — Sat May 25, 2024 6:03 am ..read more

On AAOS cars you can turn off the "automatic" sign reading bit of the Speed Limiter, then you set the max speed manually. Think this option was on Sensus Cars? That’s correct. On Sensus you can disable the automatic sign reading and set the desired speed limit manually, similary as manually setting the speed limit in cruise control or pilot assist. As this is also the starter motor and alternator on the B series this wouldn't be a solution as you could no longer use the car. No but if the car was in use then you wouldn't get stuck whilst waiting at traffic lights or at a junction as the engine would still be running. Yes, you would loose charging, but that doesn't matter immediately as the car would still run for some while allowing you to get to somewhere safe. But the belt is fixed to the engine, turning the whole time the engine is. How would turning off stop start help, it's still going round? Statistics: Posted by Felindre — Fr ..read more

I will try it JFDIT, didn’t give it a thought to do it manually before setting the limiter. Every day is a school day. Wonder what else I don’t know about until the car tells me. Statistics: Posted by Paul F — Fri May 24, 2024 9:02 pm ..read more
