We are roughly two weeks from the first preseason game of the year and it is abundantly clear the team will look different for the season opener against Columbus. Atlanta has made several transfers, both in and out, with lots of changes in the defense, especially. So this begs the question, what will the team actually look like this coming season? Transfer Window Overview While the winter transfer window is far from over, the majority of the trade rumors discussed in the past weeks have all either come to fruition or died away as Atlanta United and Gonzalo Pineda get start their preseason ca ..read more

Exploring The New MLS Rules

MLS is the latest sports league to introduce new rules aimed at speeding up the flow of play and limiting unnecessary stoppages. There are 8 new rules implemented for the 2024 season, but the three roster regulation changes will have very little effect on the season for fans. The 5 new gameplay rules are all overwhelmingly positive additions, though. The main three changes are aimed at keeping the game moving and limiting the 'Dark Arts' (take that Jim Curtin), while the remaining two rules help make the referee's decision-making clearer to fans. What are the changes? The MLS Sporting Initiat ..read more

How Atlanta Faces Columbus Without Almada

Decision day is always nervy and weird, mercifully this year was less stressful as Atlanta had already secured a playoff spot but the game still had major implications. First and foremost, Atlanta will be facing Columbus as their opponent for the first round of the playoffs. The schedule can be seen here and Atlanta's home game between two rough away trips is on Tuesday, November 7th at 7:00 p.m. The second main takeaway is that Thiago Almada was juvenile and hotheaded in a way we haven't really seen before and got himself a red card meaning he will miss the first game at Columbus. This was s ..read more

How Can Atlanta United Keep Messi Quiet?

A team with a questionable defense gets to try to mark arguably the best player of all time, and he brought his friends. Messi's stats since joining Miami are ridiculous. They have gone from a joke and embarrassment for David Beckham to an utter machine. The question is no longer whether Messi will win the Golden Boot or will Miami make the playoffs, but whether they can win it all? A month ago I would have told you not a chance but I'm not so sure anymore. That is in Messi's hands but what Atlanta can do is try to hold their own at the Benz. Possession Game This will be the most important f ..read more

Our Defense Is Bad and It's Our Midfield's Fault

While that is an overstatement, part of our defense's failure has stemmed from poor tactical choices with our midfielders. There have been 3 main problems that have been our defense's undoing this season. The defense has fallen victim to individual errors, failure to pressure, and poor midfield tactical decisions. These have combined for almost all of Atlanta's goals conceded. It is been rare this season that a goal makes you hold your hands up and say there was nothing we could do. Those are the kinds of goals that you just have to account for and make up for in the offense, the goals we are ..read more

Takeaways From the Atlanta United vs. FC Dallas Game

Considering the run of games heading into the international break, picking up seven points across the 4 game stretch is an outstanding result. This idea continued through the Dallas game as it is hard not to be a little sad we didn't beat Dallas or pickup points against Cincinnati given the high points, but it is still important to be proud of the team given expectations coming out of the League's Cup break. The Dallas game itself saw the team start off really shaky but vastly improve through about the 70th minute, after which the Five Stripes were very much just trying to hold on to the draw ..read more

In Atlanta's first home game since the League's Cup break, the team looked exciting and dangerous, a welcome change from the months before. Atlanta took a few minutes to really settle into the game, but after that, the five stripes looked heads and shoulders above Nashville and the result was never really in doubt. Summer signing Xande Silva was one of the stars of the match, registering a slick assist as well as bagging his first-ever Atlanta United goal and Saba Lobzhanidze, another summer pickup, was chomping at the bit his entire time on the field, eventually scoring in the 87th minute. What Atlanta United Needs to Improve Going Into the Leagues Cup

With the inaugural Leagues Cup tournament drawing ever near, it is clear that current Atlanta United needs to improve if they want to have any real shot at competitiveness. Atlanta is coming off of back-to-back 2-1 losses and just doesn't look all that dangerous. Luckily for Atlanta, though, neither Inter Miami nor Cruz Azul are super dangerous right now, either. Inter Miami and Cruz Azul are both dead last in the MLS and Liga MX, respectively. In addition, Cruz Azul's lone goal in the first three matches of the season was scored off of a freekick and Miami is winless in their past 11 MLS mat ..read more

Takeaways from the Orlando Match

Just as a stretch of good form including an away win was starting to instill confidence, Atlanta reverted back to typical sloppiness and coughed up two losses 2-1. This loss to Orlando was particularly poor, though, because Atlanta never really looked like they were going to win. Against New England, Atlanta was able to create 5 big chances and just couldn't manage to score. While not good, that is far better than this game in which we only managed two and less than one xG and xGOT. Sloppiness If the idea of Atlanta having trouble connecting passes and being sharp was in any way unpredictabl ..read more
