Although it was fun really building out GTS, and I felt bad because I don’t want to strain relationship with my local dealer, I could not pass up this fantastically equipped turbo S. I heard a bunch of differing opinions on whether or not the night vision was helpful or had any use, but we have a lot of deer by where I live and so far there’s been one instance where it really did notify me a deer in the road ditch before I could see it. I have an S that arrives in 2 weeks. Coincidentally the new 992.2 will be announced at the end of the month. I’ve seen pics of the 992.2 and am slightly underwhelmed and not a fan of the hybrid motor and elimination of the analog tach and manual transmission. My S is manual. Just taking a poll - should I close the deal on one of the last 992.1’s with a manual gear box and all the remnants of a pure gas motor and tach or lean into the future and delay the drive another year? Last April I left upstate NY on my way to San Diego. My observations: The car is a 2001 C4 with 62000 miles. Surprisingly comfortable. At my arrival to SD the average speed was 64 mph and 24.2 mpg. Taking into consideration one and a half hour in bumper to bumper traffic outside Oak Ridge and stops in San Antonio for a couple of days (city driving) and Tucson AZ. Not once did I see another 911 on the road on my way to SD. However, I saw a couple of newer 911s after I left SD and probably driven by some grandmothers.
