Hello. New poster here. Recently a neighbor got his raft stolen from his home. We live in a community without garages. I am wondering if any of you have a way to prevent theft when you cant securely lock a raft in a structure. Thanks in advance. submitted by /u/Stupid-Penguin4 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Fullface helmets

Went out for my 3rd time ever and for the first time in my new boat today. Was having an absolute blast up until my face made VERY good friends with a rock while upside down. Split my eye brow open along with some other fun stuff. I need fullface recommendations for someone with a huge head. Shred ready helmets don’t fit and the largest sweet protection isn’t even close. For reference I wear a 2XL poc snowboard helmet. I absolutely love paddling and have no plans on stopping but this definitely spooked me. submitted by /u/Pitbullssongwriter [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Guide training

Hi there, I am doing the steps to become a guide and I might be letting other people get in my head. I will be training to guide in Riggins, ID on the Salmon River. I do not have a lot of experience with rapids that are that intense and people keep asking me “what if someone dies?” To that I answer I do not know. I am getting my licenses, I will be thoroughly trained, I’m a small 5’3 135 pound girl and I just do not know if I would be able to save a 200 pound man or recover a flip on my own and save everyone and with no previous experience it seems daunting right now. I almost feel discourage ..read more

Context: I volunteer guide on the Colorado and Green Rivers in the summers. I just got the Astral Green Jacket PFD for use on the river this season. I'm wondering if anyone has had issues with the knife placement on the front? Like I'm thinking it could get snagged getting pulled back onto a boat. Any tips for how to secure it to the shoulder strap? submitted by /u/Few_Scallion8693 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Boating gets scarier every year!!!

Hi everyone! My whitewater anxiety has been ramping up the last couple of years and it’s starting to prevent me from boating. Today I put my raft on my trailer, got alll dressed in gear, and headed to the take out to meet with friends I have boated with numerous times to do a river I’ve been running for years. But the fear hit. I have 2 kinds of anxiety. The first one is a normal un-easy feeling that I am able to logically work through and eventually push past. I can still have a good time. The second kind seems completely irrational, no amount of working through it mentally makes any differe ..read more

Commercial Grand Canyon

I’m looking to schedule a commercial Grand Canyon trip in 2025 for a birthday milestone and job promotion celebration. Due to childcare and time off constraints, I’m limited to 7 or 8 days on the river. I’m an experienced rafter, mostly in the PNW and all three forks of the salmon. Have any of you gone on a commercial trip? Any companies to avoid (we’re not party people/heavy drinkers)? Are the motorized, whole canyon trips worthwhile? Thanks in advance. submitted by /u/thomterriffic [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Long haired people

How does everyone with long hair deal with the dry time? Been kayaking for a few years, but never want to playboat or do overnighters because it takes my hair 24-72h to dry unless it's over 90 and the sun's out. edit - y'all if you're bald or got good hair, good for you. Now imagine wearing a 7mil neoprene hood that you can't take off. Looking for advice here, thanks submitted by /u/Terrible-Lime1400 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Hand position

I posted the other day about white knuckling. I naturally grip hard and for me it’s one of those things I can concentrate on not doing it, but 10 minutes later I’m like crap I’m doing it again. So I wanted to ask- is there any argument for a grip that your thumb is over the shaft instead of under as shown in the pics? I was thinking it could be a way to naturally not be able to have a death grip and an easy adjustment for times it may be warranted. I may be totally off track here but was just curious submitted by /u/asoursk1ttle [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
