The Bonavista Peninsula is a region on the eastern coast of Newfoundland, about 3.5 hours north of St. John’s by car. It is said to be one of the first places Italian explorer John Cabot landed in North America back in 1497. Traditionally it has been an important area for cod and salmon fishing, and today it is known as a popular area to spot whales, birds, and icebergs. The scenery is a mix of rugged coastal cliffs often topped by grassy meadows. It is an incredibly beautiful coastline and, if you didn’t know any better, you’d think you were somewhere in Ireland.
