Saskatoon, Sask. – Persephone Theatre is excited to announce a gift of $500,000 from Ellen Remai, through the Frank and Ellen Remai Foundation, to address accessibility upgrades and renovations for the lobby and interior of the building. Since the public access to the building is currently limited due to the roof replacement during the summer, it is the best time to address other needed upgrades to the public areas of the building. Each year, as part Pride Month, Persephone Theatre hosts the Annual 48-Hour Queermunity Theatre Race! During this annual event, teams receive an inspiration package and have just 48 hours to create an original 10-minute play! The plays performed this year were amazing and included Rainbow Neighbours by The Chokecherries team! The curtain will close for Saskatoon’s Persephone Theatre on June 24, as the non-profit replaces part of the roof over the summer. The theatre’s executive director Breanne Harmon said the roof has had issues with leaking over the past decade. “There is so much trapped water within the membrane and the insulation that we have no choice but to do a full roof replacement,” Harmon told CTV News on Wednesday.
