When a student joins one of my Old Testament courses for the first time, I often ask them about their view of the Old Testament. Some tell me that they are nervous about studying the Old Testament. Some have heard that the Old Testament can be scary because of how God is depicted in it.  Others have heard that the Old Testament is obsolete because Jesus is here and all we need is the New Testament. A few years ago, my family attended the wedding of a relative. The next day, as we were having breakfast in the hotel dining room, my teenage nephew came to eat. He was by himself, as his parents were still sleeping.    We watched him collect his food and he came to sit with us. Unfortunately, our table was full.
