Hi folks, Looking at options for a basic wireless outdoor security system (battery powered). I'd need 3 or 4 cameras. Ideally, I'd rather record locally without a subscription. App control would be a positive. I don't need floodlights. Wouldn't want to spend a massive amount. What are the current best options? Cheers ..read more

Hi all, I have recently moved home and inherited and "old school" alarm system with a standard keypad, 2x PIDs and a control board + battery backup. However, recently it's started playing up. Instead of spending $ to try and fix it, I'm considering a full system replacement with something a bit more modern and have a few questions: 1. Are there any recommended brands that I should research into? I am looking for: a. Alarm system (2x internal PIDs, 1x external PID) b. 2x external cameras... Read more ..read more

Mixing solar panels in an array

I have 2x 100W solar panels in an existing array and 2x 200w panels as yet unused. The current controller is PWM and it will not handle the total wattage (600W) but I have an MPPT controller at hand that will. The 2x 100W panels are wired in parallel. Can I mix the panels in an array using the new controller? What would be the best way to wire them? The monocrystalline panels are Renogy brand. 200W is VoC 23V, 19.2V operating and 10.42A. 100W is VoC 24.5Vand 5.2A. Plan B would be to swap out... Read more ..read more

Hi all, My folks house is getting renovated and am looking at installing some cameras (3/4) around the house. The builder will install ethernet sockets in each room and near where the cameras may go. Are there any decent recommendations for some POE cameras that can be used with the sockets in the room which will be linked to a network switch? Looking for something that are decent at night maybe at 4k res? Thank you ..read more

Upgrade doorbell transformer to power video doorbell

Hi all, hopefully some experts or electricians here that can help me. Used Ring for years and decided to ditch them because of price increases and got myself a Eufy. I’ve always gone wired as i have an existing wired doorbell so saves on batteries etc. There’s an option for pre-recording on the new cam however once enabled i had a notification to say it wasn’t getting sufficient power. Looking at my transformer it does seem to output too low a voltage to the requirements therefore I’m... Read more ..read more

Wifi enabled wall switches

Hi, I'm considering replacing some of our wall switches with Wifi enabled ones instead. I already have one in our garage controlling some exterior lights, namely this one: Sonoff T3 However Sonoff don't appear to have a version of this that works without a neutral wire (which is the case for pretty much all the light switches in the house). Does anybody have any recommendations for neutral free ones that are reliable and well supported/in stock? Ideally I'd like the aesthetic... Read more ..read more

Visonic Powermax Complete - cant dial out due to digital. Do i have any options?

Hi I've had the Visonic Powermax Complete for nearly 12 years now. It used to send me alerts via my phoneline, but due to phonelines going digital, I don't have this alerting available to me now. I dont have a land line anymore because I only needed it for the alarm. Options/Ideas: 1/ I could buy a GSM dialler, but have been told that since the system is so old, there is a chance it might not turn on once I turn it off for the GSM until install. I would take the risk , however the GSM... Read more ..read more

Ring Intercom - direct to gate control panel?

We had an issue with our gate intercom (Videx VR4K-1 kit) where the cables between gate and intercom handset (which route under ground) have degraded over time (old system) and so the system needed replaced. The cables were deemed to be no longer working. Got a quote for a new GSM system but looked into Ring as an alternative. Have bought a Ring Doorbell 4 and the Ring Intercom kit. As we now have no working wiring between gate and house, I plan to put the Ring Intercom in the gate box... Read more ..read more
