Spring 2024. Temps are warming, flowers are blooming… and I’m already sweating, wondering how I’m going to finish seeing all 36 eligible Tony Award Broadway Productions!
It’s heart-warming to think of Broadway’s recovery this year when just 3 short years ago, every theatre was still dark because of the Coronavirus pandemic. But now that Broadway appears to be safely out of the economic woods, we theatre geeks feel comfortable resorting to kvetching about the lack of time to see every production (to say nothing of the expense!).

Okay, it’s true: tickets went on sale for the revivial of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street on September 6th, 2022, at 10:00AM, and by 10:02AM, I had two tickets in my basket and was checking out of Ticketmaster — even though the show doesn’t open for 6 months.

New York Lifts Capacity Restrictions May 19 – Stage is Set for Theatre Re-opening

Just days after New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio projected a July 1 re-opening of the city, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has accelerated the timeline to May 19th.

Following the announcement from New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio that he hopes to “fully open the city by July 1,” the Broadway League said yesterday it hopes that theatres may resume performances on Broadway — but not before September.

On June 29, 2020, The Broadway League made the difficult but not unexpected decision to close Broadway theatres through 2020 amidst the Covid-19 pandemic.
The League issued the following statement explaining their decision and offering ticket refunds and exchanges through May 30, 2021.
