Michael Esper, Elle Fanning, Natalie Gold, Alissa Emily Marvin, Corey Stoll and Sarah Paulson in ‘Appropriate’ Photo by Joan Marcus A powerful new production of Appropriate has landed on Broadway and the cacophony of cicadas that feature in the play are nearly as loud as the praise from the press. Lila Neugebauer has directed an exemplary cast, led by Sarah Paulson, and navigated an extremely complicated story with humor, outrage, nuance and heart. Critics agree that this moving and dynamic production is not to be missed. New York Times Review of Appropriate But even in Paulson’s eye-opening ..read more

Photo Credit: Joan Marcus Theresa Rebeck is a prolific playwright; however, her latest offering, I Need That, needs higher stakes, better-written jokes, and more nuanced characters. Making this subpar script work falls largely on the cast’s shoulders, and Danny DeVito does his damndest to make something of it. But is his performance is enough to make this monotonous snoozer worth the ticket price? Meh. Like Sam says, “If you don’t like it, you don’t have to come.” New York Times Review of I Need That It’s hard to imagine what more one could make of an upbeat play about hoarding. The condition ..read more

Photo by Sara Krulwich/The New York Times Purlie Victorious opened to rave reviews at Broadway’s Music Box Theater on Wednesday. Featuring a hilarious script, expert direction, and exemplary Tony-worthy performances, especially by Leslie Odom Jr. and Kara Young, this production had critics in stitches and awe. By all accounts, Ossie Davis’s 1961 production is as wonderful and relevant, as ever and the revival well worth a trip to the theatre. New York Times Review of Purlie Victorious Kenny Leon’s thrillingly broad and warp-speed production aims to keep us in both time zones at once.  ..read more

Laura Bell Bundy and Eric McCormack in ‘The Cottage’ (Credit: Joan Marcus) Every so often a show opens on Broadway to such mixed reviews that it truly is anyones guess as to whether it’s good or not. The Cottage is the latest. Critics either lambasted the show, tearing the script to shreds and and bemoaning the overacting, or were utterly delighted by the machinations and couldn’t get enough. So, will you love it or loathe it? You’ll just have to see it for yourself! New York Times Review of The Cottage Farce is the emergency that keeps emerging.
