Grab the Camera, It Snowed! The 2023-24 winter season in Southeast Michigan started off unseasonably warm, but finally, in January we got enough snow that we could take some Bull Terrier photos in the snow. Mike got his camera and one at a time we got the able-bodied dogs out to take some photos. We ... Read more

My available white female Bull Terrier Claire, along with her mother Amy, grandmother Livi, and my husband Mike and I went to the BTCA nationals, also known as Silverwood Weekend in Greenville, South Carolina. in October. This was the longest car trip and hotel stay Claire had been on and I was pleased with how she did. She can be a little hesitant about new people, places, and things, but she took everything in stride and showed very well.
The grooming room organizers assigned us a corner spot near some people with calmer adult dogs and I kept her down there during the day even when she wasn ..read more

My Bull Terrier puppies, Brook and Claire competed in shows in September, 2022. I would like to place Brook and Claire, my two white Bull Terrier puppies born in November, 2022, in their own homes so they can get more individual time and attention. I’m trying my best to keep them busy, and in September and October, that means dog shows!

Claire with her rosette and trophyDog Shows
I enjoy having Bull Terrier puppies, but to be honest, two are too much! I need to place these girls in homes of their own. I entered Claire at the Buckeye Bull Terrier club’s supported shows in Canfield Ohio the first weekend in August. Claire (Nuance Next Time Around) went Winners Bitch for a 3 point major on Sunday under Gregory Anderson. I’m waiting for the win photos to arrive, but I was very proud of how well she did at such a big show!

Too Many Bull Terriers!
I love Bull Terriers, I’ve spent more than 50 years of my life with Bull Terriers. When Amy had a litter last fall, I kept one puppy. I got another puppy back in May and spent some time evaluating her. They are fun, but raising puppies is hard work, and Bull Terrier puppies have their special challenges. As my adult Bull Terriers are getting older, not to mention my husband and I, I find that caring for ALL of us is getting to be too much. I’ve got dogs with orthopedic issues, gall bladder issues, and skin issues, and a husband whose knees aren’t letting him help with d ..read more

I received a surprising email in late May, 2023 from Jussi Kakkonen, a newer Bull Terrier exhibitor who lives in Finland. He had seen my show tips page and handouts and asked if I minded looking over how he stacked his dog. He asked if I could give him some feedback on his stacking methods, and mentioned he was going to DIY a set of stacking blocks to work on his dogs stacking.
We had an interesting back an forth email conversation comparing dog shows, dog showing styles, and even puppy prices in the USA vs Finland. I was able to share some additional resources, like Madcap University and the ..read more

Puppies leave full of hope and wonder. I try to match the puppy’s personality with both the people and any other animals in the home. It does not always work out. In my Bull Terrier litter born in November 2022, starting around 8 weeks of age, the all-white girl got into fights with other girls in the litter. I separated her from the other puppies and worked on her crate and puppy obedience skills. She had time with her mom Amy, who is very rough and tumble, and does not set a good example for nice play. I set up visits with a couple of friendly dogs, both males, and she got along fine. She ev ..read more

I had every intention of merrily blogging along about my Bull Terrier litter adventure with Amy and her puppies. Breeding Bull Terriers is never easy, and sometimes, like this time, it is very hard. Amy went into labor 2 days early, and one of the puppies was stillborn, which probably triggered the early labor. One boy was very small, and died two days later, if only he’d had those two more days to develop, perhaps he would have survived. A girl, who looked very healthy at birth, lost weight dramatically and died just after the little boy. I had a necropsy done and she had severe lung damage ..read more

Amy’s x-ray taken on November 9, 2022A nice surprise
I knew Amy was pregnant, she had a positive ultrasound, she was acting very clingy, her belly was getting bigger, and her nipples are enlarged and bright pink. The ultrasound estimate was “3 or 4” for sure. Well, when we did an x-ray this week, which was day 54 post-ovulation, the number they saw was 3 AND 4, seven puppies!
I am prepared for a large litter of Bull Terriers
After all the small and failed litters over the past 3 years, I have accumulated a lot of supplies that never were used. Fresh iodine, but no cords to sanitize at home. A ..read more

My husband Mike and I took all three of our dogs to the Bull Terrier Club of America’s 2022 National Specialty in Nashville Tennessee. Bull Terrier people refer to this as Silverwood Weekend. The event was held at the Embassy Suites Cool Springs in Franklin, TN. This ;was my fifty first time attending the BTCA’s Silverwood weekend. Hard to believe I’ve been going that many years!
We were busy!
All three of my dogs were entered in different events, although Amy, did not compete due to her being pregnant. I was a speaker on a breeder education panel held on Friday afternoon. The Performance Comm ..read more
