HISD held its sixth annual Career and Military Signing Day on May 16 inside Delmar Fieldhouse. The signature event celebrates seniors graduating from the District’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs and who have decided to serve in the military.

HISD’s offices of College, Career and Military Readiness and Post-Secondary Programming partnered with HISD JROTC to hold their second-ever Military Career Day at Delmar Fieldhouse on Wednesday, March 7. Unlike the first Military Career Day in January, this event was catered to high school seniors who are undecided on their post-secondary plans.

The HISD Departments of College and Career Readiness employ many tactics to prepare students for life after high school graduation, including one-on-one advising, PSAT/SAT prep, college application assistance, and more. Every year, HISD’s Career Readiness department hosts the Career and Military Signing Day celebration, an event for recognizing and celebrating high school seniors who are graduating on a path to military enlistment or employment with one of HISD’s partner corporations.

A record number 112 HISD seniors received full-ride scholarships at the annual Marvy Finger Family Foundation Scholarship Ceremony held Wednesday, April 26, at Delmar Fieldhouse.
Since 2013, the Marvy Finger Family Foundation has awarded HISD graduates full scholarships to promote career and technical education (CTE) opportunities for students living in communities of socioeconomic disadvantage.

HISD’s Career Readiness Department hosted its annual “When I Grow Up” career expo which featured dozens of exhibitors from local companies for students to explore and learn more about.
