As you are likely aware, our friend and colleague, Ron Arons, died suddenly and unexpectedly on Sunday, January 7th. Ron was a special person within IAJGS, where he served as Secretary of the Board and assumed a broad range of responsibilities. He was also well known within the broader genealogical community as an author and knowledgeable and engaging speaker. Ron had a great talent for friendship. In the two weeks since we learned of his death, I have spoken with many of you who conveyed stories about Ron—his expertise, his generosity, his enthusiasm, his humor. And IAJGS Board members have r ..read more

The Genealogy Research Bug Bit Me!
The International Association of Jewish Genealogical Societies

Growing up I had heard the story that my Zaidie lost brothers and sisters in the Holocaust with minimal detail. It was only many years later and long after both my Zaidie and Bubby had passed that my interest was sparked to find out what happened to that part of my family. Of course by then,  I could no longer ask the questions, That was several years ago, and though I still know very little of what must have been their horrific experience, I did connect with some shared family. With some research I was able to find some documentation and photos to build some of their life stories. Once I ..read more

The International Association of Jewish Genealogical Societies
by Nolan Altman

Greetings from Long Island! I have been researching my family tree for over 20 years, been on the Board of JGSLI for 7 years, the last 2 serving as President, and yet the 2019 IAJGS conference in Cleveland was my very first genealogy conference. I had no idea what to expect, but I dove right in, choosing from over 180 presentation options, and signing up for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame reception, the Gala Banquet and 4 different SIG luncheons. The conference days were a whirlwind of lectures and lunches. JGSLI was well represented with over 20 members in attendance, including 11 speakers ..read more
