Hello, I picked up this 1997 Ranger, v6, and once I drove away and signed over some problems showed up. 1. The check engine light came on. I stopped at AutoZone. they scanned it and told me I need a new PCV valve or hose. The one currently installed looks brand spanking new, (from what I gather to be the PCV valve) I guess the owner cleared the code before selling it to me. Where should I start looking? 2. Arriving home I noticed some brown sludge looking like mud in the coolant reservoir. Looks like it can be dexcool? So I want to try flushing the cooling system. What was concerning to see ..read more

Any tips removing truck bed by myself on a 93?

I'm trying to remove the truck bed on our 93 Ranger to change the fuel pump. I got the bed unbolted and cleaned out. One of the bolts nearest the fuel tank snapped but the bed is loose and can be removed. I tried to move it enough to access the fuel pump but I can't move enough by myself. Everyone that can help that I know lives too far away to come. Is there any tips on getting it slid back enough? It's stuck in a carport, so I don't have an engine hoist or tree near by to try and make a crane. Does it help to remove the rear bumper ..read more

So this 2000 ranger with 3.0. my son is going out of town today, like a 80 mile round trip. Nothing crazy. Checked oil before he left because it leaks a little. Oil in the good zone. Heads out. About 30 miles from home, not quite to his destination, the engine makes some kind of ping sound and shuts down driving like 55mph. Pulls over, starter just hits, won't turn engine. Starter was replaced like 3 weeks ago with a new one. Engine temp gauge says it didn't overheat but when he opened hood and pulled oil dipstick oil same pumping out. So he shoved that in quickly. He did overs that coolant is ..read more

1999 Ford Ranger Throttle Body Repair

Hi! This forum has been a blessing troubleshooting the high idle on my 1999 Ford Ranger. My mechanic and I agree we need a new throttle body (Part # F87Z9E926DA). Unfortunately, it is no longer being manufactured and I cannot find a replacement. I have read there is a teflon(?) coating on the inside that helps to prevent airflow around the butterfly valve. Does anyone have any ideas on how to add the coating or where I might look for a good replacement. Thanks for your help ..read more

ABS Sensor Failing? Dash lights come & go

Truck: 2011 Ranger XL, 2.3L Duratec and 5R55E, 8.8 axle & 4 wheel discs. Mileage: ~124K I've had this happen to me four or five times now. It only happens at highways speeds after 60+ minutes of driving time. The ABS and Traction Control dash lights will illuminate (light blue circles - not my dash, internet image): I have an older Scan Gauge in my Ranger and the last time this occurred my wife happened to be riding along with me. I had her scan for codes while the lights were on (and I was driving). No codes were found. Also, sometimes the dash lights will go out, on their own, while ..read more
