Hey all, I have a Surly Pugsley. Bottom bracket is toast. Bike shop has given me some options but all involve completely different crank set and possibly new gears/ shifters/ derailleurs.... I'm looking to see if there are any folks here that might have any spare original Cranksets. I have an 168mm wide ISIS-spindle bottom bracket for a 100mm wide bottom bracket shell. Can anyone help a brother out? Ebay had nothing that I could find. Barring finding old new stock or used...what have... Pugsley owners ..read more

Considering a set of summer wheels for my fat bike...27.5" or 29" wheel set?

I am considering a used set of 27.5" Nextie 41.4 mm carbon wheel set with I9 hubs with low miles. They come with Maxxis Reckon+ 27.5 x 2.8" tires. My question is, would it be better to look for 29" wheels rather than running 27.5" wheels? During summer months, I mostly do trail rides with my Specialized SJ Evo so the summer fat bike use will be limited. Are there inherent advantages of running 29" wheels over 27.5" wheels other than perhaps smoother rides ..read more

Hey all, I have a Surly Pugsley. While out riding today, I noticed that that crank arm assembly is moving back and forth about 1/16 of an inch in the bottom bracket. Any ideas why this might be happening? I tried to see if I could tighten the hex screws going into the crank arms but both sides appeared tight. Thx Slarti ..read more

I love both these bikes. Have the Pug set up for bike packing and the ICT for racing in the Winter. The Pug as standard and running Rolling Darryl rims with 3.8 Nates. I know my ICT is newer but will it be a better ride than my Pug in the summer? Its also standard but has the bud and lou setup with huge 4.8s. Just want your thoughts. Regards ..read more

So, I finally got my first Fat Bike - Trek Farley. I live in Maine. My primary interest in it was for fall/winter/spring riding in snow/slush/ice/generally yucky stuff. I have a FS bike for summer trail riding and all that. I don't race. I have done a little Bike packing and hope to do more. As I put studs into my tires - Gnarwhals, I wondered about riding the fat bike year round WITH the studs. What would the drawbacks be to doing that? I would avoid riding on pavement as much as... Is fat biking in trouble

I guess is should say is the segment in trouble. I have info that a big player in the fat bike scene isn't bringing in any bikes for next season. They have so many left from this past season that they won't bring in a single fat bike for next season. Just a slow season... The industry as a whole is correcting.....fat biking is really in trouble... Or any combination of the above ..read more
