Technique Tuesday - Paper Piecing
Anita Goodesign Blog

Paper piecing is a fun technique that allows quilters to create odd angles and geometric shapes in their designs to form larger patterns. In order to recreate this traditional quilting effect in-the-hoop, we use our folded fabric technique. Paper piecing uses standard appliqué in addition to folded fabric. Each folded fabric piece gives the appliqué elements added multi-dimensional interest and appeal. The geometric shapes may seem random, until you use a matching thread for the final satin stitch. This will help tie together the subject and give a clean, visually fascinating effect! The ..read more

Technique Tuesday - Freestanding Designs
Anita Goodesign Blog
by Kathryn Bost

Freestanding designs are embroidery designs that have been digitized to do just that: stitch out on their own without the need for a base project! These types of designs are generally best done on a Tear-Away or Wash-Away stabilizer, making finishing up the project a breeze.  When classifying our freestanding projects, we tend to look for 2 key components in their construction: a back fabric being added on the back of the hoop to cover any bobbin stitches and satin stitch edges for a clean, finished look. These types of designs are great for quick projects, simple gifts, or even as fun ..read more

There are many ways to further decorate or even enlarge your quilt, and one of our favorite ways is by adding sashing and border blocks! These specialty quilt blocks are smaller in scale than the main quilt blocks, and help tie everything in the quilt together. A lot of our collections already come with sashing and border blocks, meaning your blocks will be perfectly coordinated with the rest of the collection! Sashing and Border Blocks complete a quilt Sashing and border blocks add the perfect finishing touch to a quilt. Sashing blocks space out your main blocks to create an eye-catching ..read more

For over 20 years, Anita Goodesign has created stunning works of art in both quilting and embroidery collections, but one of our favorite things to watch come to life would be our intricate tile scenes! A tile scene is defined by Anita as beautiful and detailed pieces of original art that have been divided up and digitized into multiple quilt blocks. This way, the scene can be created on a home embroidery machine, block-by-block. Once the blocks are joined together, they create the larger image as a whole. While tile scenes can come with a variety of techniques in them, the most common fea ..read more

How it all began  Our company was founded in 2004 by our Owner & Operator Stephen Wilson, but his journey to start this company and build it into an industry leader began a decade before that.  Back in 1994, Steve was 24 years old and working as an electrician with his father. He never felt like this was something he wanted to do, and decided to search for something more fulfilling. This is about the time he bought his first personal computer and thought, “There has to be a way to make money with one of these.” Having loved his graphics classes in high school, he got some grap ..read more

Our team of in-house artists illustrate beautiful and detailed pieces of original artwork that are then digitized so you can embroider these intricate scenes for yourself! Commonly referred to as Tile Scenes, these multi-block images get divided up and digitized into multiple quilt blocks. When the blocks are pieced back together, they create the whole picture! We’ve crafted quite a few tile scenes over the years, from quaint cottage homes or nods to nature, to more ornate scenes like the Last Supper or Noah’s Ark; stitch out a dreamy escape to Tuscany or a crisp autumn day. Whatever themes ..read more
