We are all familiar with teething, the process that occurs during childhood and adolescence when our primary teeth (also called baby teeth, deciduous teeth) are replaced by our secondary teeth (also called adult teeth, permanent teeth).  Perhaps nothing puts a child in a better mood than knowing that they have lost a tooth and that the tooth fairy may be putting $1 under their pillow! Well, cats and dogs also have two ‘sets’ of teeth–most mammals do–and because the teething process is quite complex, mistakes can occur and teething may not go according to design.   Additionally ..read more

by Dr. Kipp Wingo

Stomatitis in cats is often a very painful dental disease. Let’s dissect the term stomatitis.  “Stoma” refers to mouth. The suffix “itis” refers to inflammation, therefore stomatitis is inflammation of the mouth. When present, it often appears as red lesions in the mouth.  The exact cause of stomatitis is unknown. It is theorized to be an autoimmune disease whereby kitties become “allergic” to plaque. The Vet Dentists Blog
by Dr. Erich Rachwitz

Toothbrushing is the gold standard in veterinary dentistry for keeping a pet’s teeth happy, healthy, and disease-free. As a veterinary dentist, I am continuously teaching dog owners how to effectively brush a dog’s teeth at home and how to have their pup cooperate with this sixty-second event.
