Different to brxxm I don't think that docker is more complex to install than a VM, but it actually depends on the support/tutorials available for homeassistant (docker is listed there, but seems to have limitations). You may have to decide that first. Given that it seems to be implemented in Python, you can choose all way: Plain on QTS, docker, VM.... I would not recommend to go plain on QTS.
