host Proxmox 8.2.2 5800x cpu 64gb ram I'm a new pfsense user. Pfsense installed as vm to the above. My isp connection is symmetrical gigabit fiber. Coming from sophos UTM with similar guest configuration as below. pfsense Guest 4 vcpus 8gb ram assorted virtio nics and igb in pass through (nics from i340-t4 card) The proxmox host is supported by a UPS that reports power consumption at 1 watt precision (not necessarily accuracy) with relatively quick update intervals. Tested various combinations of nics for lan/wan, including igb for both, vtnet (virtio) for both, and combinations there of. Test ..read more

Constant loop errors on bridgemode in VMware workstation player

So when I was setting up the pfSense Firewall in my VM, after installation is done it constantly throws this loop and won't even let me type anything, any help on how to troubleshoot this? I am using pfSense in bridge mode so it could communicate with other VMs on the same network. I tried troubleshooting it and figured out this loop error doesn't prompt when I changed it's network adaptor to NAT type from bridge mode but I am assuming that won't let me communicate with other VMs on the same network, can someone guide me on how to fix this and why is it happening? I'm using VmWare workstation ..read more

Re: pfSense on Proxmox - High RAM Usage Hmm I know this thread is old however I was provisioning my Proxmox pfSense VM with 8Gb of RAM. Once provisioned it consistently used 6.71 Gb of RAM as reported by the Proxmox Summary page on the VM. I followed the advice of this thread and made a balloon.conf file within /boot/loader.conf.d and added the following: virtio_load="YES" virtio_pci_load="YES" virtio_balloon_load="YES" I rebooted and then I confirmed and got a similar dmesg with dmesg | grep virt The VM memory listed for the pfSense VM is listed at 8192 mb with ballooning activated. Virtual hard disk so big

@skveen Your the very first that shows me a system with more RAM as (hard/SSD°VM) disk space ... I've never seen that before. Why insisting with such very small disks ? Does pfSense even fit on a 1 GBytes drive, leaving close to no free space available ? Not even talking about swap space, which is 'normally' twice the RAM size .... edit : Google told me you should read this : PfSense Hyper-V .vhdx growing like crazy ..read more

PFsense VMXNET3 WAN Speed Issues

Hello Guys, We have PFsenses configured and updated to the latest build on VMware vSphere. We are able to see several Gbps speed when we patch a VM directly in the internet port group. However when we route through a PFsense, we seem to be 1Gbps speeds and not the 5+Gbps speeds we get directly in the internet interface. Does anyone have any experience with Virtual PFsenses ? Are we missing something obvious to unlock the true speed potentials here? We're playing around with tune-ables etc, but no joy so far ..read more

@SolPain A WAN address is usual DHCP. I guess you want to place pfSense behind Express VPN, so it would be one of 10.184.16.x and you need to select another subnet for pfSense LAN and AD ..read more
