I haven't crabbed in California since 2018. Have a few questions about the new regulations
Are crab traps legal in Half Moon bay? (I am assuming they are as of Feb 2024 but the website is slightly unclear to me with many conflicting articles/statements)
Am I able to use crab traps off a public pier without a license/trap validation?
Do I need to use a buoy with my traps when crabbing off a public pier?
Thanks ..read more

I spent 5 days crabbing in NorCal last week and used a bubbler to keep the crabs alive. I got the idea from this forum and I thank those that posted about it. I put the dungees in an ice chest starting Monday, and just cooked the last of them today (5 days later). I never changed the water, but did add a few ice cubes every now and then. It worked like a charm. Thank you! The bubbler I used has a https://9apps.ooo/ lithium battery in it...

Hello,
I’m looking to go crabbing off the Oregon coast in Nehalem around the end of January. I’m planning on getting a boat and throwing out a few cages with chicken breasts zip tied to the cages and going out during low tide or high tide and leaving the cages out for a couple hours. I’m planning on checking the weather and seeing if there are any strong winds or storms and making sure that the water isn’t too muddle. Any suggestions, tips, or pointers. Thanks ..read more

Looks like many marine areas are opening up next weekend! Wondering if anyone has tips for dropping pots either from a pier or boat?
Looking at charts for bottom type, it looks like eelgrass all the way between West Point and shoreline. Is this the right place to look or do they prefer a different environment? I’ve gotten conflicting info.
Is there a good starting point as far as depth? Also is going off shilshole pier worth it at all? (I have access to a boat, but it’s expensive and can...

I've only tried adding weight using a duo lock snap swivel, attaching swivel and sinker outside of the cage. Has anyone tried putting the weight inside the cage and then baiting it before closing the lid? What type of weight works best for putting inside the cage? Do you have any other method ..read more

I’ve done some googling and some say it’s good time to crab because they’re nice and fat. I looked up some marinas in NJ and some are closed for the season. I was planning to rent a boat and introduce crabbing to my nieces but https://9apps.ooo/ I don’t want to go and catch nothing in which would possibly make them hate crabbing for the rest of their lives. Is it a good time to go right now ..read more
