The freezing level was above the summits at first but it was slowly falling, plus 1.5 degrees celsius at mid-day minus 1.5 at 1600hrs. Rain fell at all levels during the morning, often quite persistent, scattered showers in the afternoon interspersed with brighter spells and some light snow above 650 metres. Summit winds were strong from the South-Westerly direction. Overnight and through the day localised areas of windslab will develop mainly on North to Easterly aspects above 900 metres. After a little overnight rain it was a dry morning, rain started to fall at all levels around mid-day. The freezing level was well above the summits and winds were strong from the South-Westerly direction. The snowpack is moist at all elevations and has diminished a little further and is generally now quite patchy. However, stability remains generally good in most locations. Greatest snow amounts are present on North to Easterly aspects above 900 metres. The existing old moist snowpack will consolidate. New snow amounts are not expected to be significant mainly a light dusting, lying mostly on ..read more

Last night cooler conditions were enough to partially re-freeze the moist snowpack with the freezing level at around 900 metres and a light dusting of new snow fell mainly above 800 metres. During the morning the freezing level slowly rose to above the highest summits and much milder conditions affected the area with rain falling at all elevations. Summit winds were strong from a Southerly direction. Meall a’ Bhuiridh this morning showing a light dusting of new snow. Conditions quickly deteriorated during the morning,  the visibility on Meall a’ Bhuiridh around midday at 900 metres ..read more

Calmer conditions today with occasional sunshine made a fine change from the very strong winds of late. Some rain and sleet last night gave way to dry conditions today, the freezing level is above the summits. Outlook is for strengthening generally North-Westerly winds with some new snow mainly overnight. Windslab will form in wind sheltered locations but many of these areas will be bare ground, where accumulations form on older snow bonding will be poor but most of these areas should be avoidable. Heavy snow in April is quite common and often called the lambing snow due to the problems it causes for farmers. There was heavy snow last night above around 300 metres. Light snow showers in the morning turned to rain as the freezing level rose through the day. Significant areas of fresh windslab are present. See the avalanche report for full details. Visibility was poor today at higher elevations with cloud on most of the mountains. Photos below showing what I could see of the fresh snow. It was a dry day with light North-Easterly winds. Cloudy on the summits much of the time with some clear spells.
