Otago Daily Times: Impromptu Gatherings Call for Stimulating Wines   2021 Coal Pit Tiwha Pinot Noir  Words by Mark Henderson "Leads with some humus and fungi aspects, perfume rising up from beneath, ripe plum cherry swelling, savouring qualities, clay. Sweeter fruits lead, a cooler tamarillo aspect comes into play as the tannins and acidity rush in to bring dryness that flows through the wine. Intensity of flavour and a cooling influence to the long, tangy finish. Serious, structural backbone, potential."  Rating: Excellent to Outstanding   ..read more

Last month, we hosted our friends, family, and industry partners for our annual Native Planting Session at Coal Pit. We were touched by the incredible turnout and support of our small team and reforestation efforts. Anika has been working closely with Neill, Barb, and the Whakatipu Reforestation Trust for the past few years, including the landscape of our second planting session. This year's group contributed to the planting of 600 native trees on-site next to our non-viticulture land on-site and next to the 400 natives we planted last year (which are almost 1.5 meters in height, almost as ta ..read more

Otago Daily Times: Wine Times  'The best of Central pinot noir' — 2019 Coal Pit The Leo Barrel Selection Pinot Noir  Words by Mark Henderson "Sweet fruit, showing the first hints of development. Steely, minerally, a wisp of warm leather, lifted perfume. Again, ripely fruited, expressed in richness rather than 'sweetness', developing a cool almost minty herb quality, before the engagingly long fruit-filled close. A quiet sumptuousness, again development, the structure building. Complex and fascinating." Rating: Excellent to Outstanding ..read more
