Tarator Sauce
Good Gut Ayurveda | Recipes

This is an optional sauce that is wonderful with the burger, and also as a salad dressing or sauce for a rice or grain bowl.  I love this sauce with short-grained brown rice. In fact, one of my favorite quick meals can be made with short-grain brown rice with feta cheese, fresh herbs, tarator sauce, and avocado. Tarator is a creamy Lebanese tahini sauce made with sesame, lemon juice, fresh garlic, and a pinch of salt.  In this version, I’ve added soy sauce for extra savory taste, and a bit of cayenne pepper or red chili to dial up the flavor.  It’s super creamy and flavorful, fu ..read more

Masala Millet with Leafy Greens

With a history of cultivation that traces back over 10,000 years, millet is an essential grain for humanity. However, with the widespread adoption of wheat, millet has largely fallen out of favor. Most people in the United States have probably never eaten it. This is a true shame, particularly for Kapha and Pitta types who will especially benefit from millet’s sweet, astringent, light, warming, and drying qualities. The other major benefit with millet is that it is very tolerant to drought. Millet could very well save us one day in the future. Health benefits Millet is a diuretic (drying) and ..read more

Carrot Salad w/ Honey-Ginger Dressing
Good Gut Ayurveda | Recipes

This quick salad of grated carrots, cucumbers and celery is super tasty with the honey-ginger dressing. Carrots and cucumbers are nice and cooling, while celery add satisfying crunch and exceptional fiber. The cooling vegetables contrast the zingy warmth of the dressing itself. This dressing reminds me of the one I always get at Thai restaurants on salads. While ginger might sound strange in a salad dressing at first, I expect you will be pleasantly surprised, especially when combined with honey. How to enjoy; meal ideas Enjoy this salad as a side dish along with any Asian food that would go ..read more

Full of fiber from fruits and vegetables, this Ayurvedic smoothie isn’t overly sweet, and it’s well balanced in terms of overall flavor and doshic effect.  The fruits used are green apple, red apple, pear, orange, and fresh lime juice, while the vegetables include carrots, celery, and cilantro.  Dosha effects A smoothie like this one made with sweet, juicy fruit is most supportive for Pitta dosha due to its inherent cooling qualities. Vata and Kapha are pacified due to the additional warmth of the lime and ginger. This is such a pleasant smoothie. You feel like you are chewing your d ..read more

This soup is inspired by winter snow and vegetables that are white, or light in color. I’m talking about white potatoes, cauliflower, turnip, celery root, fennel root, kohlrabi, parsnips, rutabaga, onion, leeks, celery, and radishes. Just a selection of them. You can mix and match. Jump to Recipe Health benefits My hope is that this soup recipe will encourage you to try a new v ..read more

High-Protein Oatmeal Dosa (Gluten-free)
Good Gut Ayurveda | Recipes

When I made oatmeal dosa for my husband the first time, and asked him to guess what it was made with, he could not.  The texture turned out almost exactly like the home-cooked dosas he is familiar with from his native South Indian cuisine.  A dosa is a cross between a pancake and a tortilla. Something like a crepe, but not as delicate.  This was incredible, considering it takes quite some talent to make a real dosa from scratch – not to mention about 24 hours for fermentation.  In contrast, this quick, gluten-free flatbread can be ready to cook in about 15 minutes. Yay for ..read more
