Shorter top grip, bad idea?

Hello folks Just got some new somewhat generic blanks, and I've been thinking about trying to build my own grips. I think I have the rough size of the lower grip, but I'm leaning towards the top grip being only about 8-9". Is this dumb? I don't think I really have a way to test it, but this is going to be a light rod, so I think it would still balance decently. Looking for advice, thoughts, and possible reasons I'm idiot. Thank you ..read more

Spring has sprung in the Canadian Maritime Provinces and many anglers are anticipating the annual run of sea trout in the rivers and streams feeding into the ocean waters of the Gulf of St Lawrence and the Atlantic. These sea run Brook, and Brown Trout enter the estuaries of most salmon rivers here in May and June. This run is in conjunction with the smelt entering these rivers and streams to spawn. The may fly and stonefly emergence also occurs in June and these heavy hatches offer... Celebrating the Strawberry Run ..read more

So I finally did it, I bought an 11 foot 2wt reddington claymore. I have a 23 foot scandi line and a rio running line to go on it. Thought I had a reel I could use for it but I'm thinking its going to be to heavy. I'm hoping to find a click pawl reel for it. Just not sure what size and weight for a 2 wt spey . One more thing .... right hand retrieve as I'm a southpaw . Hopefully someone can point me in the right direction . Thanks in advance ..read more

Spent the day with some friends on the Beaverkill and West Branch. Before the Hendricksons started to pop I tied on a sparrow trailing behind a small size 8 scupzilla. Needless to say, the sparrow did its job. I went 1/3 swinging with one other grab and a brief hookup as well. What are some of your go to trout spey soft hackles ..read more

Good evening folks. Found a situation where I landed a brand new, plastic on the cork Echo Glass Switch 3wt 10' 6". I have arriving tomorrow a 240g scandi light. I currently own a 300g skagit lite, and was wondering if this would be to much. I am commited to learning scandi with this rod, as I have spent a while now learning skagit. Steelhead is the primary, but I will be letting this rods first experience be the peak of the American Shad run this year. It looks to be a good season with... Hello All, Nice to meet you! My name is Seth. I am an avid fly fisher and I am most skilled targeting trout in mountain streams typically fishing under an indicator with nymphs. However, I will be spending the summer on the Northern Umpqua and I am trying to decide when to fish for trout and when to fish for steelhead. I have 4wt, 5wt, and 8wt fly rods. Since the Northern Umpqua is so famous for summer steel head I was wondering if I should just cover all of the water with my 8 weight... I have a RB Meiser S2H1004SX 10' wt single hand spey rod. I am using one of Steve's 262 grain Scandoid and a 225 gr Opst smooth. I often use 50 gr Sonar tips or 80 gr TC tips. I am thinking about trying an SA Spey Lite Scandi head. Should I go for a 240 or 270 gr head? Thanks ..read more
