Is menswear made offshore no longer shite by definition?

When I was a kid, I grew up smack dab in the middle of the "made in Japan is a good thing" renaissance and I think the same is true today for "made in China". Quality for the price giving way to quality without always consulting price first. Chinese high-end audiophile equipment is not an oxymoron. We see seemingly high quality hand made shoes from Borneo. Established bespoke shops often make semi-bespoke/MTM and RTW offshore. Hong Kong vs mainland tailors? Can we get Chinese made... Read more ..read more

Italian tailors and shirtmakers recommendation

Please move if I'm not posting this in the right section of the forum. I'm going to be spending the next 5 months in Rome for work. While I'm there, I would like to experience first hand Italian tailoring. Does anyone have good recommendations? Ideally, I'd like to have a suit made (I don't need big names if you know a great local tailor) and some shirts. I'm mobile and can drive to cities in the vicinity (or Milan, if the recommendation is that good). Thank you ..read more

Collar roll

'It's overstated isn't it, this thing about the importance of the roll on a button-down collar? The Ivy shirts I have from the 50s and 60s have really quite small button-down collars; they are beautifully shaped, soft and unlined but they do not really roll, there is instead just a minor kink so they don't lie flat against the rest of the shirt. And I think this was the norm. Even the classic, original Brooks collar, which did roll more than most, really acquired its beauty and fame due more... Read more ..read more

Pleated Pants?

My stepson just started a new job that requires him to wear decent business casual attire, including dress slacks. He has a copious supply of dress slacks, nearly all the result of my generosity in previous years. Unfortunately, the vast majority of them are pleated. He is now refusing to wear pleated slacks, claiming they are "out" and unfashionable. I think he got this from one of his pals whom I hold in low esteem. I view pleated pants as classic and timeless, but then I'm an old man... Read more ..read more

I used to buy my shirts from Grosvenor and Chester Barrie. When they closed I used Smyth and Gibson and Harvie and Hudson more. However, Oliver Brown has had some good recent offerings such as Sea Island cotton shirts from £185.00. I was thinking of adding more Sea Island cotton shirts to my T&A, Emma Willis and Oliver Brown selection. Oliver Brown are still great value. Ede and Ravencroft are not that much more. H&K have Sea Island quality shirts in their sale. T&A and Budd are... Read more ..read more

Dear friends! I am a big fan of everything related to blue blood. Usually these noblemen are snazzy dressers too. Let us collect the best pictures here. I will start with pictures from the Ballo dei Re which took place in Naples in 1960 in the Palazzo Serra di Cassano. ps: this might feature some industrialists too...
