Swim BC Announces Open Water Championships Cancellation

With an abundance of caution, the Organizing Committee and Swim BC staff have decided to cancel the BC Open Water Championships. Originally scheduled for Friday, June 14th, the unseasonably cold spring has led to water temperatures falling below the thresholds set by Swimming Canada and World Aquatics rules.  The Competition Managers have been closely monitoring the temperature of the Sasamat Lake competition course. Congratulations to HYACK’s Shima Taghavi on breaking the National Age Group Record for the women’s SCM 200 Breast in a time of 2:29.69!  Shima broke the record previously held by Courtenay Chuy which had been on the record books since 1998.  In addition to her National Record, Shima also broke the BC Provincial Record in her 100 Breast with a time of 1:11.39.  Congratulations Shima! Junior Pan Pacific Swimming Championships

The Junior Pan Pacific Championships took place from August 24th to August 27th in Honolulu. Three BC swimmers were selected for the team: Adam Wu (SKSC), Bill Dongfang (ISC) and Katie Schroeder (LOSC). After 4 days of competition, BC swimmers made numerous finals and brought home 1 medal. Canadian Junior & Senior Swimming Championships – Day 1

The 2022 Canadian Junior & Senior Swimming Championships are taking place in Montreal from July 25th through August 1st. The competition has 638 swimmers representing 145 clubs. British Columbia has an excellent contingent of 114 swimmers, representing 24 clubs. After Day 1 of the competition, BC Swimmers had 45 A Final swims and earned 15 medals. Each year in Canada the last Wednesday of February is designated as Anti-Bullying Day. It is a day when people come together by wearing pink shirts to school or work to show they are against bullying.  This year, Swim BC is taking the step to help all our members send a message that our sport does not tolerate bullying, and to emphasize that kindness and compassion are critical to making our sport a safe place to be.
