It’s a 1964 1201 tenor. It had the braces switched from ladder to X. It wasn’t terribly expensive, because i wasn’t sure I wanted to learn another instrument. It has a fantastic tone to my ear, and I have changed the tunings a couple of times to see what sounds best. It’s an ongoing test at this point. I've read there is the Harmony 1201 tenor, then the Harmony 201TG, which is the better version of that. statistics: Posted by Pacificaster — 5:10 AM - 2 days ago ..read more

When I got my Yellowstone Deluxe relic, Bruce answered my email questions in two days, and apologized he didn’t get back to me sooner. As an aside, I had a new nut and some fretwork done on it, and my luthier put very light strings on it. It came alive, so you might try very light strings on your Weber some time. Counter intuitive I know. statistics: Posted by Br1ck — 27 minutes ago ..read more

I started a FaceBook group called "Mandolins For Sale or Trade." There is a group called "Mandolin Players Unite" that is for anything about mandolin, but there wasn't anything specifically for buying, selling, and trading mandolins. Check it out if you like. statistics: Posted by Yooper1 — 4:23 PM - 1 day ago ..read more

I just got a 1964 Harmony tenor to play around with. I got it off a luthier site that had good reviews. The fellow replaced the ladder bracing with X bracing, reset the neck, replaced the fret wires and replaced the tuners. It certainly is a player grade instrument, but a lot of fun to play! It stays in tune, and the sustain is impressive. I’m starting out with Chicago tuning of DGBE, just to get my feet wet. I did try it in the traditional tuning of CGDA, and it was a sweet sound. I can’t wait to take it to our jam this Saturday, I’m sure my friends will want to try it out. Of course here is ..read more

Appears to be a Style 0, right? Mahogany. Is there a serial number? Or not? Check out Ukulele Underground. They seem to know all and may even tell some. OB statistics: Posted by Old Bill — 2:24 AM - 1 day ago ..read more

I've never played mandolin before, but have been keen to have one around the house to slowly start the journey of learning. I'd been looking for a used Eastman MD315 for a while but hadn't had any luck tracking one down. I was perusing the online used section of a local(ish) shop this morning and saw a Seagull S8 for a price that made it hard to say no. I realise this is just an entry level mandolin, but if the shoe fits...  Any suggestions for youtube channels or books to begin from would be welcomed.
