---Originally posted this on the tenor guitar forum; figured it might be better here--- Hi guys, still enjoying my tenor but recently began listening to early rock&roll again. Although this music is dominated by six-string electric guitars, I'm guessing that there would have been a few leftover acoustic tenors knocking about in 50s pawnshops, maybe even an Epi or other electric from the brief crossover period in the 40s. Can anyone point me at rock&roll and rockabilly players on four-string instruments? I'm aware of the Delmores, to get rid of the obvious suggestion. Tia, WM ..read more

Hello to all, I am new to this site and have some questions concerning a mandolin which I acquired more than 20 years ago. It is a vintage Shutt style by Harmony. I have read several of the threads here regarding these instruments and find it interesting. I bought this as a collector item .. with no knowledge of it at all ..considering it an oddity at best when I bought it . I have enjoyed owning this .. I had it cleaned up and set up after I got it . It is in great playable condition sounds great ! Several of my friends have played it. ( I play banjo) It is described by Bernunzio Instruments ..read more

I know there have been posts in the past about Gail Hester but I wanted to share something here. I’ve heard great things about Gail over the years from a handful of respected folks in the mandolin world. However, I had never played one of her mandolins until recently. It’s rare to see one, it’s even rarer to see one for sale and for good reason. When I had a chance to play a Hester F5 not long ago, I knew within a minute that I had to have it. I was not shopping for a mandolin, I’m blessed to have some very nice mandolins and I certainly didn’t need another one whatsoever. When I first played ..read more

Maple top, Block Logo SOL

The Strad-O-Lin variations just keep coming. During the block lettering logo era when all the script stencils were worn out one of the elves grabbed a plate from the wrong stack and punched f-holes in a maple back. Quality Control did not catch it. I never liked the mahogany tops but they probably sound better than the maple ones - Les Pauls excepted. Sorry, I could not load a webp file here but the link to the auction is open. https://www.ebay.com/itm/38698069217...Bk9SR6yN3N7xYw ..read more
