Meet Pisco, the newest addition to Alpacas Of Montana, and the latest chapter in our ongoing mission to provide care and compassion to these incredible animals. Pisco's story began with good intentions—an alpaca purchased by a family with dreams of starting their own farm. However, life took an unexpected turn, and they found themselves in a situation beyond their control and they could no longer properly care for the alpacas. When the owner reached out to us, facing the difficult decision of either finding a new home for her alpacas or considering euthanasia, we stepped in. Pisco, among the ..read more

Greg Cairns, Alpacas of Montana's Videographer, recently took a canyoneering trip with some of his favorite alpaca wool products. This is Greg's story and written by him: Canyoneering with Alpaca Products We loaded our backpacks and trekking poles into Tim’s old Tacoma. Our plan was to backpack through some of Utah’s most remote and rarely visited canyons for 5 days. There was 15 degree temps and snow in the forecast. 15 miles of our 35 mile route was completely off trail. But, as an old backpacking and canyoneering guide, I believe my partner and I were capable of making it back to the t ..read more

Top Benefits of Hypoallergenic Alpaca Wool Compared to Merino Wool
Alpacas Of Montana Blog
by Julia Burnham

Having sensitive skin may be with you forever, but itchy and irritated skin is a thing of the past. Alpaca wool is hypoallergenic, allowing your skin to feel and look its best without you compromising any warmth or breathability. Sheep’s wool got a bad rap for being notoriously itchy and pivoted to solve the problem. Great in theory, terrible for the environment.  Merino Wool fiber has barbs that look and feel like a little fish hook. Many people believe they are allergic to Merino Wool but they aren’t, the wool is actually just scratching their skin causing a micro-abrasion and then th ..read more
