Any quality window AC with functional heating?

Live in a townhouse in the PNW and been eyeing a new window ac (currently only have a portable AC) My home has no built-in duct work or other cooling functionality, and only baseboard heating. Being a townhouse I can’t easily just run out and install a mini split system Sooo, window ac! I’ve been eyeing the Midea (or rebranded versions) U-Shaped design which seems very well liked and reviewed. I saw they also have a model that can deliver heat which they say functions to 41f/5c - which makes it a bit difficult because I’d really want something that could function lower than that Only thing I ..read more

If you were building a house ( UK here ) and wanted a heat pump, what's the most efficient way... Obviously underfloor heating, but what size pipes? What about upstairs, radiators again what size? On a ring with each Rad coming off or individual runs pipes back to a central location? Copper with bends Vs straight/ bendy plastic to remove 90degree bends which I've read reduce flow? submitted by /u/Ambitious_Claim_5433 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Mini Split Efficiency; Which Approach is Better?

I have a two story cabin in Vermont, 1800 sq ft in total. I'm installing mini splits and have consulted two contractors who both pitched separate ideas: • Install 2 single zones for $14.5k (one 30,000 BTU downstairs and one 18,000 BTU upstairs) • Install 3 single zones for $16k (one 12,000 BTU downstairs, a 9,000 BTU downstairs on the opposite side of the house, and another 9,000 BTU upstairs). Which is more efficient and will cost less to power? The house is a pretty open layout (i.e., if the doors are open you can see both both sides of the house). Also important to mention this is a vacati ..read more

Just had 2 12k ceiling cassettes installed into a large 28x32 room. Trying to find best way to link them as a single unit. Spoke to Mitsubishi rep said only way was to use a wired controller and adapter. Has anyone found an easier/wireless way to get it done? Efficiency loss from longer outdoor lineset exposure?

I have had a heat pump for over 20 years now, and am now replacing it for a modern one. My existing unit is located right next to our patio which has always been annoying. So I intend to shift the unit around a corner, which will add about 15 feet more of coolant line. Im in Québec, so the unit will provide heating in sub zero temperatures. The current units line goes straight into the house, with only a couple of feet of exposed line. What impact will that have on the heating capacity of the system? Does adding insulation to the line make a difference? If it's meaningful, I have the option t ..read more

Stand height for snow accumulation

All of these quotes are showing a 12” stand on pavers. With our clay and it being on the north side of the house - where snow accumulates the most - that doesn’t seem adequate. Should I ask for something different? If so what? submitted by /u/rossnagl [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
