Megaflo Unvented Turn Off When on Holiday?

Hi, Later this year I am going away for a 2 week holiday and as the weather will be warm there is no need for the heating to be on and arguably no need for me to needlessly heat hot water. My intention was to turn the boiler off along with the mains water when going away. Now, I have heard that Megaflo's should be kept at 60 degrees plus to prevent bacteria growth etc. Will turning the cylinder off for two weeks full of cold water when we return likely be a problem? Thanks ..read more

Vaillant VR10 with a vented cylinder?

Hi, I was hoping to replace an old system boiler with a Vaillant Ecotec Exclusive 627 system boiler, thats the one with the diverter valve so no need for zone valves, controling it with a V-Smart and a VR10. I've spoken to Vaillant Tech and they said you cannot use the VR10 with a vented cylinder because of 'Water Regs', but I can't really understand why, when asked further he spoke about an unvented being designed to handle a higher pressure on the coil, but it is already pressurised so I don't really see what difference that'd make really. The only obvious slight issue is that it won't have ..read more

Recurrent e133 (not condensate related)

Apologies if this has been answered elsewhere, but my family and I are starting to crack. I'll start at the beginning, and maybe someone will see something that makes sense to them. We live in a council property, and a couple of years ago our boiler (a Promax 28 Combi) started flashing us the good old e133. Initially we assumed it was condensate related as it was very cold outside. We called the council and they sent an engineer, and he said it had nothing to do with the condensate pipe/trap. He replaced the ignition and ionisation electrodes, and the problem went away. Six months later it re ..read more

Central heating losing pressure all the time

Every two weeks or so I have to go and top up the system because the hot taps are running cold. Boiler display is flashing 0.6 bar and I fill up to 1.3. I've had an engineer look inside the boiler and he can't see anything wrong. I've checked the pipes all over the house and cannot see any obvious leaks. Is it worth replacing the radiator valves? They aren't that old and it seems to be quite a lot to be losing all the time for it to be a small leak but I can't think what else it could be ..read more

No Hot water, Fixed and Broken Again Ideal Logic 24

Ideal Logic 24, Previous problem was that the hot water was only cold or barely warm if the heating was in use. If heating was off and boiler cold then would get hot water most of the time. Changing the flow cartridge about 2 years ago (when I moved in) solved this problem enough to suffer it as I have a dishwasher and electric shower. Over time this gradually got worse. Until I had to fix it. Changed the flow sensor and the manifold, still not working. Changed the diverter cartridge manifold and diverter actuator , inspected the heat plate which appears to be in very good condition. Put it al ..read more

Hi everyone, Looking for a bit of advice, recently went to a job where heating was operating when called for however not for the hot water. I have changed the 3 port actuator Honeywell head however this doesn’t seem to have solved the issue, does this mean that the programmer is faulty? Or is there something else I’m missing, any help be much appreciated ..read more

Wind affected short cycling boiler

I have an old Modena 80 E combi boiler that is randomly short cycling on windy days. The burner goes out and re-ignites within a few seconds and continues to burn for between five and forty seconds before stopping again. Under normal conditions the boiler works fine but as soon as it gusts over thirty miles an hour the cut-outs start and continue until the wind subsides. I had the boiler serviced but the gas engineer couldn't identify the problem and wondered if a good clean out of built up debris around the burner would rectify the problem. It didn't. He said there were no readings of fumes b ..read more

Auto balance trv and Ideal Vogue boiler

I have an ideal vogue max S18 boiler and I’m considering fitting auto balancing TRVs, my question relates to the boilers pump. I see a boiler pump menu for either 70% or 100%, so, is the pump set at either one of two fixed speed percentages or does the pump actually vary speed, (modulate) based on other parameters, my understanding is that auto balancing is only effective when their is constant flow. Any help to demystify is appreciated ..read more
