Installing an AO Smith gdv40 - their non-power vented direct vent water heater- and finding that their tech support seems to not have any knowledge. The manual allows for two 90’s- one from the vertical off the top of the unit to horizontal, and a second if there’s a need for an off-set exit horizontally out the wall. I have an installation option that would require a 45 from the vertical off the top of the unit, a second 45 shortly after back to vertical, and then the 90 out the wall... Hi all, I have a 3 speed blower for my furnace, only the black high speed has continuity. The yellow and red do not. I wanted to do a summer switch and have the blower on low during the summer. I have never had a problem with the furnace. Is it normal to have continuity for only one speed? Its a Lennox G20(draft furnace has no inducer) I think the capacitor is blown as jumping out the fan makes the fan only hum and not spin. Power is getting to the blower from the board. When I removed the... 3 speed blower 1 phase ..read more

So in the winter we do a lot of servicing water heaters because things slow down and my boss tries to book all his water heater services in the slow months. it seems here in missouri almost every one has an electric water heater and pounds of calcium built up. The draining process takes from 30 to 45 minutes and then I can finally do work but I am tired of standing around for 45 minutes. is there a faster way to drain an electric water heater? also our servicing is just me with a shop vac... electric water heater servicing ..read more

I was called to an older gentleman's house to clear his kitchen sink drain line stoppage. As I am setting up in his kitchen with my equipment the customer starts to tell me a story. He and his wife now reside in my state of Florida as retirees but he is originally from Minneapolis, MN. He tells me that years ago he worked for Amoco Oil up in Minneapolis. They had a fleet of trucks and delivered fuel oil to customers' homes for the oil-fired boilers that are in the basements. So... Oil Tank In Basement ..read more

I'm installing a Navien NCB-H combi-boiler later this month, and picked up the manifold kit from Ferguson this morning to prepare the necessary parts for installation. The manifold itself is fabricated from stainless steel and has dielectric unions for the connections to the boiler and the building plumbing. The union nuts appear to be bronze and rubber isolation gaskets are included. What's strange is that the tail pieces appear to be stainless steel, not brass. I've called Navien technical... Water heaters and vacuum relief and anti siphon valve/s

Can someone help me understand the function and application of these devices? I helped with an "apollo" (side loop for the HVAC) style heater and it failed inspection due to not having a vacuum relief valve on the side loop inlet (lower). Heater was located on first floor laundry closet of 2 story condo, city water, prv, etc. It's my understanding that the vacuum relief valve prevents back siphonage if the main is shut off and somebody tries to run water, but the domestic side of the...
