Hey everyone. I have what is probably a stupid question. I am wanting to drywall my garage this summer and I have what look like anchor points on the joists (I know this is likely wrong wording) my questions are: Do those appear structural and if so, how would I drywall around that? I’ve watched a dozen videos and never seen one with this. Thanks in advance ..read more

Potential Customer just sent me some pictures and video of their ceiling to see if I can help. This looks like a bit of mess and not sure if I should take on this project. Half the room had painted popcorn ceiling which was sanded down. Other half is smooth ceiling. They want it all to match with any kind of texture except popcorn ceiling again. First, would you take this project on? If so, Would you skim coat the previous popcorn ceiling then texture it all? Any other recommendations... Ceiling skim coat ..read more

Drywall Cracks, installed yesterday

I usually do the drywall work on jobs but this time my boss subbed it out because we're super behind. They finished yesterday but when I looked at it today I noticed tons of cracking. Mainly in corners, which won't be hard to caulk in, but there is a really big one on the ceiling, right in the middle of the joint (not the edge of the tape). I've never seen this happen so quickly. What's going on? Also, what's the best way to fix it? Can I just skim coat it or should I use some tape... Drywall Cracks, installed yesterday ..read more

I’m thinking about getting a 48” skimming blade for blending in doorways, those humps you always see on basement stairs etc. Is there really that much difference difference between brands? No one one local sells one so I can’t see it In person, I’m thinking Marshaltown would be good for $70, I also see off brands for 30-40 and level 5 for 190. I’m willing to pay if it really matters but I have hard time believing one skimming blade is worth that much more ..read more

Fire Sealing Drywall Ceiling to Wood Paneled Walls

I’m quoting this job tearing out the old drywall and rehanging it. Normally, with drywalled walls I could just tape that corner and be good but I can’t find anything in the code about how to handle the transition when the drywall is butted to panels like this. I would think I could put fire caulking in there, maybe some blocking behind it for a draft stop and be ok but I’m not 100 percent sure. Any of you seen anything in the code book for this situation? Minnesota has its own slightly... Fire Sealing Drywall Ceiling to Wood Paneled Walls ..read more

I am fixing up a 30+ year old apartment in Santiago, Chile. I got some questions, how to join drywall to concrete wall (continues wall). I never really worked with drywalls. I have only worked for about 2 years in construction, building prefab hemp insulated houses (in Europe) and we only used Fermacell. I removed wallpaper, im gonna put some primer to close-up the damaged parts and prevent bubbling later on. But as you see on the picture they left a gap in between the concrete wall and the... Tape for ceilings?

I had to re tape a few of these angles recently, I used straitflex because I’m used to it and I’ve had good luck on other inside corners and I got it done but this was a real pain. It seemed like I wasn’t getting the angle right when I creased the straight flex ahead of time so it wanted to spring away from the mud even after I pressed it down good and it also wanted to fall and peel off if I didn’t hold up the loose end as I was going. It seems like I... Tape for ceilings ..read more
