Hello. I've recently moved my two african land snails to a new enclosure. And now they are both hibernating, I've dug them up to check on them and when I do they wake up, eat a little and then go underground again. The temperature and humidity is around 21-23 celsius and 67-87% (depending on if I remove the top glass to vent out some moist) They live in a aquarium, quite large and higher than the last one. They have some plants and corkbark to hide under but mabye they are afraid to come... Hibernating snails (Achatina fulica ..read more

Retracted Old African Land Snail

Our snail, Gary, is about 10 years old and I noticed last night, when I was giving him a bath, a gap between his body and shell. I put him back in his tank and he ate a bit of cucumber. However, today he seems to have gone deeper than usual into his shell. Is there anything we can do to help him? To make him more comfortable? I have emailed our vets, but not received a reply yet. Will he be in any pain? Is this just old age? Any advice/suggestions would be really appreciated ..read more

Hello there, I recently bought some feeder snails for my lizard but they didn't mention me the species of them. The reason I ask is cause I decided to keep a few as pets. Could you know by any chance? I have never seen something like that before and the seller told me they are baby snails but.. Aren't they too big for babies? Thanks in advance ..read more

Lonely Cricket??

I’m quite a sensitive soul… My brother owns a crested gecko and I agreed that I can look after the crickets he has to feed him. A month ago, he fed the last crickets to his gecko but one escaped and so I decided to name it and keep it as my own pet - because I felt kinda sorry for it. I understand that crickets chirp a lot but I’m just worried that mine is lonely. His chirps sound sad and he’s always watching the other live insects in other tanks. Is it possible for a cricket to be lonely... Lonely Cricket ..read more

So for some background information, my snails (garden snails) just don’t eat enough calcium. I try everything and I fill their tank with lots of cuttlebone and leafy greens. I’ve also tried many calcium products that they still don’t eat. Today I brought this (see pictures below) but it’s meant for guinea pigs and rabbits but I brought it anyway. Do you guys think it’s safe for land snails ..read more

My snail, Jeremy, is about 1 year old but his shell isn't growing properly. The new suture where his shell is forming is really rough and now a gap has developed.the rest of the shell looks shiny and he repairs small chips easily. Does anyone know what is causing this or what I can do to help him? He has oyster shell flakes and cuttlefish, his tank is kept at about 25 degrees and is always quite damp. Thanks in advance for any advice ..read more

Yestersay I noticed that my Giant Asian Mantis had fallen to the bottom of her enclosure, after further inspection I noticed that she was still alive, just super lethargic. I googled the symptoms and checked on various forums, and came to the conclusion that she may be dehydrated. I've given her water from a q-tip, and even lightly misted her but still nothing. After hours of sitting with her and trying to get her to drink I finally put her back in her enclosure with the lid off and left it... Dehydrated Praying Mantis ..read more
