With the release of documentation describing the migration from the Standard Data Model to the Enhanced Data Model, we’ve entered some unprecedented times for organizations that have been using Power Pages for a long time. For the first time since Microsoft acquired the product, a significant upgrade of the website will be necessary at some point in the future to transition to both Bootstrap v5 and the Enhanced Data Model. Fundamental Changes If you built a site in 2016 using what was then know as Dynamics 365 Portals, up until now in 2024, you could have gotten away with essentially no major ..read more

This month we continue our look at some of the pro code techniques that appear in the templates available for Power Pages. We’re going to stick with the “Schedule and Manage Meetings” template, which provides a multistep form for booking a meeting. This time we’re going to look at the second step, where a user can select which location they want their appointment at. This step includes some custom JavaScript, plus a PCF Control. Selecting a Location When you get to this page for the first time, you get to choose whether you want a virtual appointment, or to visit a branch. You do this by pick ..read more

Power Pages: Multiselect Change Event

I was very excited when multiselect (choices) column support was finally added to Power Pages in 2022. While I had published a workaround on this blog (and it was one of the more popular posts on the site), it was great not having to create extra fields and register plugins. Recently, however, I was asked about how to work with these fields on the form in JavaScript. I’ll dive into that in this post. Choice Column Control A choices column on a form is displayed using an advanced control that behaves like a multiselect dropdown, where selected choices are then displayed, and can be removed. Power Pages: Adding a Custom Form Modal to List Action Buttons

Recently there was a comment on my blog Power Apps Portals: Related Entity as Source of Next Web Form Step about adding a custom Edit button to a list or subgrid. In this case, rather than editing the main row in the table, they wanted to edit a row that was related to the main row. If you want the edit form to pop up in a modal, it requires a bit of JavaScript. In this post, I’ll go through what you need to do in order to achieve this functionality. Bootstrap Version Before we get into the code, I did want to mention that this post covers how to do it with Bootstrap v3. I’m guessing that Boo ..read more

This month we continue our look at some of the pro code techniques that appear in the templates available for Power Pages. This time we’re going to look at the “Schedule and Manage Meetings” template, which provides a multistep form for booking a meeting. This form has lots of pro code goodies in it, so this won’t be the only post, but for now, we’re going to look at the first step in the form where the user chooses what type of meeting they want to have. Selecting a Service When you click the Book Now link on the homepage of the “Schedule and Manage Meetings” template, you’ll be presented wi ..read more

If you follow us on social media, hopefully you’ve seen that we at Engineered Code shared some exciting news this week. We announced ecLearn, a learning management system (LMS) built on top of Microsoft Dataverse. In this blog post I’m going to give you a bit of a glimpse into the ecLearn journey. We’ve been working on ecLearn a while. If I recall correctly, it was way back in 2017 that we first started talking about the idea. We were working with a Dynamics CRM client at the time that had express interest in an LMS. When we did our research into something that would integrate well with their ..read more

Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) have been an important part of the Microsoft Business Applications space for a long time. ISVs create solutions that build on top of the platforms and products that Microsoft provides off-the-shelf. As the Power Platform has continued to grow and evolve, more opportunities have presented themselves for ISVs. In this post, I’ll look at what ISVs might want to consider when looking at incorporating Power Pages as part of their offering. At Engineered Code, we’ve worked with a number of ISVs who have chosen to leverage Power Pages as part of their product. Man ..read more

This month I’m continuing my series on looking at how functionality is built into the new templates available for Power Pages. In this post I am looking at the Program Registration template, which allows users to browse and sign up for classes, and is useful in scenarios such as an after school program. Specifically, I’m going to look at the functionality that allows users to search through the available classes. What Does It Do? The home page of the program registration page offers the user the ability to search through the available classes. You can search by keywork, or filter using dropdo ..read more

Microsoft’s Power Platform is constantly growing and evolving. As much as everyone (especially Microsoft) wishes that all parts of the Power Platform worked seamlessly together, the reality is that many parts of the Power Platform existed long before Microsoft started using the word Power to group these technologies together. However, I believe that advancements in virtual tables, specifically for Power Pages, emphasizes the fact that Dataverse should be at the core of any Power Platform implementation. Power Pages: Are They Really Worth $2 per User per Month?

The price point for Power Pages has long been a tricky discussion point. The pricing model has changed a few times over the years, and organizations can feel frustrated if they are on the wrong end of who ends up paying less and more when the model changes. In this blog post, I’ll review the history of the pricing for the product, and provide my opinion on whether I think the cost is justified by the value. A History of Pricing Before the acquisition by Microsoft of the product, Adxstudio’s pricing model wasn’t tied to the number of users. Instead, you paid a certain amount (in the $10k-20k r ..read more
