I have an upcoming trip to Hong Kong and I am flying with United. The depart time is at 11:45PM at night, but my friend may have to drop me off early at SFO. Does anyone know how early the United check-in counter will open for the international flights especially at SFO? Thanks ..read more

Next week will be my first time taking Flair Airlines. They say they fly out of the International Terminal, but it lists gate B5? I am familiar with the SFO International Terminal and they are A or G I believe? 1) This means their counter is at the International Terminal? 2) I can walk to B5 from the International Terminal? Through A side or G side? Thanks. Travelling w/ 2 kids and would want to be clear before we head over to SFO next week. Below is from fylsfo.com for 7/14 ..read more

Flying SFO to FRA in PE. I am under the impression that the dinner service may be slightly better than in E. Rather than take the chance, I am thinking of having a decent meal in the International departures area. Would appreciate some suggestions as to where a decent dinner may be served. Thanks ..read more

Shipping from SFO

I'm not normally the type to buy souvenirs so I didn't plan ahead. I'm currently on an ANA rtw flying from GUA-IAH-SFO-HNL and I bought some art here in Guatemala after being blown away by it. We have 7 more weeks of travel and no room so I was hoping to get it home to Denver. I figured it would be way cheaper to ship from the US than here in Guatemala. Is there some way to ship from. SFO or IAH? SFO is ideal since I have a 7 hour layover while IAH is only 1 hour. Worst case, we can leave SFO during the layover but we didn't plan on that. Unsure where this travel focused post would belong but ..read more

FasTrak for express lanes / HOV in rental car

Is it feasible to use Bay Area express lanes for no charge as HOV-4 (or discounted bridge tolls) in a rental car? It looks like you can't use the license plate option to get HOV rates. As far as I can tell, the Avis-provided, charge-an-absurd-surcharge ones also don't support FasTrak Flex for HOV usage. Is that right? It also looks like I can buy a transponder if I go to the right place (though that won't be trivial), but it includes $25 of pre-paid tolls, whereas we don't expect to pay any tolls; we just need it to use the express lanes for free. Am I missing a good option here? (We'll be l ..read more

Construction Status at STS

At this point my question is more out of idle curiosity than anything else, but has the construction at STS finally been completed? I head down there every year, and it always reminds me of road construction in the Midwest or the Northwest: never-ending, regardless of planned finish dates. Wasn't happy last year with having to walk halfway to Novato to go around the terminal to get back to baggage claim and the passenger pickup area (I have some minor mobility issues ..read more

Early morning walk from Fisherman's Wharf to Golden Gate Bridge

Hello, having like 18hr layover at SFO on my way to PPT from Europe and I'd like to explore the city a little bit. Staying in Zoe at Fisherman's Wharf. Here's the thing, I like to walk and I'd like to walk from the hotel to Golden Gate Bridge early in the morning, like at 4am or so. Thru Along the coast, via Crissy Field. Now, the question is simple: is it safe these days, or it'll be better to wait until daylight or take a cab? I've been strongly advised not to do it by my American friends, however, none of them is from San Francisco... Thanks in advance for your help ..read more
