The time has come to share my latest round of mods to my cruiser buggy. AZ and Hammers wheeling was inflicting some serious abuse to my drivetrain and the final straw was a blown tcase that resulted in 8 hours of winching. With support from my now fiance I took the plunge to invest in some serious upgrades. The cruiser community is still where I feel at home so I hope you all enjoy.
The plan is to retain what was working and ditch what wasn't.

I have a 73 fj40 and my question is what’s the best option out there to go from stock length rear leaf springs to springs around 56-58” long as far as comfort around town and price , strength for crawling and good articulation. It has 39.5 stampers, fj60 running gear, Detroit lockers front and back, spring over, Chevy 350 w/muncie rock crusher, 4 speed transfer, near center mounted traction bar, reversed leafs up front. I don’t want the springs hanging out the back and I want a soft ride...

I recently removed my 4wd 465/NP205, and installed a 2wd 465/D300.
The throwout bearing was toast, the inner race could shift >1/4" side-to-side inside the outer assembly, so I installed a new throwout bearing.
I've put zero miles on the rig since then, a I'm still in the process of building up other stuff on it. So I've only put about 500 ft on it.
The problem I'm experiencing is it kind of seems like the clutch isn't fully disengaging the tranny. From a stop, when I put the clutch in...

I'm doing a shackle reversal and SOA on my 72 FJ40.
In most of the posts and write ups I have seen people have cut a hole in the frame and put the top of the shackle through it instead of cutting the stock shackle bracket off the front of the frame and relocating it to the back.
Why?? Is one way better than the other?
The only difference I can see is that using the stock bracket would mess with the caster but I will be setting that up from scratch when I cut and turn the...

Hello, What is the rule if any, regarding the rear shackle placement into the frame?
I found the following instructions “A 1.5 hole was drilled through the frame, and a 1 3/8" OD steel sleeve with a 3/16" wall thickness was welded inside the frame to accept the spring bushings.” from Ih8mud post.
What is the distance from the front leaf eye to the rear to mark the spot ..read more

Thought I might go the contactor route on my winch on my '71 FJ40. Did the research but concluded that contactor is not the way to go.
The solenoids are original on my '77 winch which I have owned since 1980 and still works properly, I use it several times a year for various reasons.
If converting to Albright or similar contactor I can no longer use the space where the stock solenoids live as the box remote plug extends into the solenoids and a contactor blocks the plug in, I want to keep...
