Wheeled artillery, not a new thing...

The war raging out in Ukraine has highlighted the need for and versatility of wheeled artillery. On the modern battlefield as you are aware there are drones & counter battery artillery radar. The idea of fixed artillery positions is out of date and only possible if the opponent does not have the ability to detect and destroy your fixed positions. The fact that the "west" have only cottoned on this fact and that tracked artillery is slow, along with it's massive support chain, is a deficit... Read more ..read more

Russian 'Turtle' Tanks

Seen quite a few grainy videos of these things - but no clear pictures. It almost looks like each 'shell' is cobbled together from whatever is available, so no standard pattern. There are I believe APCs, as well as tanks. Whilst I understand the use of stand-off armour to combat kamikaze drones, they must make visibility from inside very difficult - Anyone found any more pictures and info? Dave As soon as I posted, I found this ..read more

Hi All, How do you guys emulate things like rope in 1/35? I'm thinking of stowage tie-downs and tow ropes etc.? I think I get how to make straps, maybe using metal foil, but ropes escape me. Cheers ..read more

I'm in the process of building the above. Lots of small parts and thick connections between parts and sprue, but manageable. The question though is the bogies have what appears to be cable drums fitted. But what are they for... I've only managed to find one photo showing the drums but too grainy to identify. Any ideas. Just ordered the 1/35 ICM French Laffly V15T ( at a very nice price! ). Looking at the instructions ( from Scalemates ) I'm puzzled to see that it's right hand drive! - I thought that all European vehicles ( apart from the UK ) were left hand drive. Was the Laffly an oddity, or were RHD vehicles common? Dave ..read more

I am not totally new to building plastic models, but I have not built any military vehicles since I was in my early twenties (over 40 years ago). I am looking for something 1:35 scale any period, to have a go at as a first attempt attempt using some of the new materials and techniques available today. Something not too expensive that maybe after a first go I can maybe try again if I am not happy with the results. Any suggestions? I have a 'stash' of two models, but I want to try my skills... Hi all, I have a Takom 1/16 Willys Jeep on order ( from John of course ) The model has quite a detailed engine so I'd like to add spark plug leads to it, any suggestions on what to use would be gratefully received. I've seen a few YouTube videos of them being added but they didn't mention what was used. I also want to wrap a tow rope around the front bumper, what diameter rope/string would be best to use. Regards, Chris ..read more

First off, I hope you all had a wonderful Xmas. Secondly, although modelling has stopped, as some of you know, I have got a new AFV...a RC 1/16 Bradley. Just some painting and a bit of detailing but no making stuff. So, I am doing stuff just not building. I managed to get the pro version for the same as the standard all plastic one so, well happy. This will be warmer weather project so should be up and running by summer....but, as some of you who know about RC, things do not always go... Read more ..read more
