Personal accident protection with car insurance is not a good protection

Hi, let's assume that I have a personal accident cover (under the car insurance) + an income protection. I'm not sure if the personal accident insurance is different if subscribed with the car insurance or separately, so I'm writing this post by not knowing if there is a difference. My car insurance would cover me only 2500 pounds for damages to me, which is crazy... I think that as a comprehensive insurance it covers several millions for damages caused to other people or things, but to me it would cover only 2500, how the hell is that possible?? It's even an extra!!! I can't imagine how man ..read more

Home insurance

We've correctly declared  to our home insurance provider Halifax, that our house is terraced  with 3 beds and 2 bathrooms.  We have a ground floor extension with a flat roof but they don't ask any questions that we could answer to declare  this.   I phoned to check and was told they don't need to know this, all they need to know is type of property i.e.  detached, terraced etc,  number of bedrooms and bathrooms   Seems a bit odd as other providers do ask and also % of flat roof. Anyone else come across this ..read more

Does insurance repair/redecoration apply to the whole room or only the affected area?

I’m asking about a house that has been damaged by escape of water.  If a room has a ceiling that is 50% wet/damaged and two walls (out of four) that are wet/damaged, is the damaged area repaired or the entire room? Can the insurance do a patch job repair?  Existing ceiling is popcorn, which they say they can’t do, they can only do a smooth ceiling, so will the ceiling be half popcorn and half smooth? Doesn’t this make the room look worse than it was before the escape of water? The room has plain wallpaper that is painted. So will half the room have new plain (white) wallpaper and ..read more

Professional indemnity insurance for freelancers - 6 years?

I am reviewing a contract where I would be a creative freelancer for an agency. The agency would then take on client jobs. The contract states I need to have professional indemnity insurance for 6 years after any project has completed. I know 6 years is standard where a company closes (e.g. they need protection for at least 6 years afterwards) but I wasn't sure whether this applies where I am the freelancer (sole trader), not the agency itself? If anyone has any suggestions for good indemmity insurance that would also be appreciated. Thanks ..read more

Buildings Sum Insured

Trying to understand the actual sum insured for buildings insurance, between the stated "rebuild cost" you enter in and the max buildings cover in a policy. For example I'm going via CompareTheMarket which uses SimplyBusiness and requested a quote for buildings including accidental damage, no contents, 250k rebuild cost. The best quote it found said "Our buildings insurance covers up to £600,000 as standard. This is to provide assurance that your property is covered for this amount, regardless of any difficulty you may have in estimating your property's rebuild cost". Ran it again with 350k r ..read more

Insurance Payout Question

Hi, My Dad died recently and he was directly employing 2 carers (he was in a wheelchair) at time of death. Legally on his death, the two carers are due statutory redundancy. He had Carer Insurance which provides coverage as follows: "The policy will not pay more than: £2,000 per employee or a maximum of £4,000 if more than one employee is made redundant." However they will only pay this out after money in his 'direct payment' bank account is accounted for - essentially a bank account that the government paid into to support him directly employing carers.  The two employees ..read more

Hi all, I'm hoping you can advise on a specific home insurance scenario. Home is owned by me however is lived in by my mum but no rent is paid. Its what I believe is called a gift with reservation from my mum to me. However when its comes to insuring the house for buildings cover it always tricky explaining this to new insurers. So much so that we have only had 2 insurers cover in the 11-12 years since this arrangement was made. My mum pays her own contents insurance, I pay the building insurance. The insurers always want the policy holder to live in the house and I've never looked at landl ..read more

Travel insurance when waiting for medical test results

I'm trying to get travel insurance for a trip I've already booked but am awaiting test results for a (non life threatening) medical condition.  I fully expected to have that condition excluded from cover, but StaySure tell me ALL pre-existing conditions will be excluded if I buy insurance from them, even though the other conditions are stable. Is this typical? Has anyone been able to buy travel insurance while waiting for a test result without having all their other medical conditions excluded ..read more

A query about Churchill car insurance

I have been doing quotes for my daughter via MoneySupermarket. Churchill came out very competitive, but when I went to their actual website to check all details were correct, they ask how many vehicles are registered at the address, rather than just cars, as other companies ask.  There was no note at the side of the question to indicate whether all vehicles or just cars had to be declared. Since we have 4 cars and 2 leisure vehicles (motorhome/camper), I changed 4 to 6 and was told the quote was invalid! I have had an online chat with Churchill and been assured that it is just the no of ..read more
