I see you have it sorted now.  Cheap to buy a new 6v battery and stick the top off the old one on it. Mine used to make some type of warning sound when the battery was nearly flat. We have a post here somewhere that says how to modify a 3000 to use a tracking button. It may not work on a 2100 though. Don't know glenkk.  I have a sd 2000 but haven't had this problem.  Manual for sd 2100 mentions this flashing when charging battery from flat, but nothing about when using, or affecting volume.
